Crawford and I were able to haul a small load of
wood with the sled from the East along the cut bank.
A great many bare spots however and quite a job.
Saw several ravens and a few fresh fox tracks. The
young ice seemingly is here to stay. No chance to
move camp with the dory. Variable breezes.

A seal was seen on the young ice about 1/2 mi
S.E. of camp today. Crawford bring tried the ice
and altho it would bear his weight it was too
risky to go out on. Variable airs. Cloudy.

A calm cloudy day and warmer than the last few days.
A great deal of open water a long distance to the S.E.
if distance can be judged by water sky. A seal seen on the
ice today to the S.E. but the ice was too thin to risk trying
for him. Cut wood and general duties. Calm. Several seal sea-
gulls and ravens seen. Also several fresh fox tracks about camp.

drifting snow. A few ravens seen. Waiting still for the young
ice to get thick enough for sleding. Cloudy.

Snowing hard all day and blowing a light gale
from the East. All along the horizon to the South
is water sky, perhaps 6 or 8 miles offshore and
during the lulls in the wind the sound of surf
