Didn't get back till after midnight. Bought 3
outside cane chairs at the little Singapore Shop
run by a Chinaman, with whom I had a talk - was in there once before.

June 8, 1922 - Thursday

After doing up some jobs here, writing two cards,
two letters, I went to the G.H. to see Mrs. E, who for-
tunately was there; also sor Mrs. Mix for a few
moments. She left this eve, the former going to the
station with her. Then went to Wratts, where I saw
B. who gave me checks for hers & G's prints; Mr. H
explained very elaborately about the meeting in
honor of the consul general; went up stairs & Miss
W. showed me thru the house, tho' I was about to
leave without seeing it. She had given my riding
trousers to Mrs. E., & Miss P. had brought up two letters
from the press for me, which she had also.
Went on to the next house where the three girls
each bought some extra pictures. Then called
on Dr. Kelly's where I left the British Empire no.
of the Lit. Dig. Thence to Seagraves to congratulate
P. & see if I could find out the Saya's address at
Kalaw; Mrs. S. wanted to see the baby's pictures
so I tore open the letter to show them. Was late
for break. after all this - & Miss U. had an early [one?]
so suppose the boy was none too well pleased. Af-
ter [After]this I washed out a corset cover & union suit,
bathed, dressing in fresh things from skin out,
had tea, & with Miss C. we left by train for R.,
where she went to Rowe & Co's & to Dr. Osbornes's,
then to De S's; left the 2 films of the dhoby, but my
others were not finished, so I'll have to go back to-
morrow [tomorrow] for them & have the others mailed to
me. Got on the train & started out, only to have to
get off & go back to Dr. Murray, with whom I had
quite a talk. Then by the A.B.M. compound where

I found Miss P., the woman I was after, at the
dinner table. By car
again & to Miss Minus', where they served rosewater,
cakes & candy; saw Mr. M., the young daughter & a
daughter-in-law. Rain came up & delayed me
so I was again late for dinner, but they'd only had
the soup - so to bed almost immediately afterwards.

June 9, 1922 - Friday

Didn't go out all morn. as I packed my 3 suitcases,
wrote some notes and did other things that occupied
me till break; then Miss C. came in and asked some
questions about Rhyme & Rhythm; after which I fin-
ished [finished]my letter before going to town. Went first to the
press where I drew out all I had, except the am't of
my ticket up here, & also cashed my 3 checks rec'd
yes. Then to the De S's for my films; on to David's for Colgates
toothpaste (2 tubes); priced a mirror next door (R.50);
then to see Mrs Eng Ang in 21st St; had taken a rick-
shaw [rickshaw]when I got off the car & kept him till now. Rained
while I was in there; I met her mother, aunt, sister, &
small niece & nephews, was served tea, peeled & seeded
mangoes, & coconut strips - all of which I ate. Got
back to the school about 3 p.m., just the time I had
planned; bathed & dressed, finished packing & had
tea, when the gharry arrived. Knew I was early, but
went along & was the first in my carriage; a woman,
servant & 2 large girls got in our section whose names
were not on the card, so when Mrs. C. arrived she went
to the Station Master about it, so he finally changed
them to a 1st class - they were riding on a pass. Then
a Burmese Cath. got on, but she left us at Pegu on acct
of having an upper; she left a basket in the bathr
& another at the other end of the section; the former
later on caused no small excitement as it was full
of live crabs! Misses C. & T. came to see me off; the
former had bought beautiful slippers for the dance
that eve; got a paper for Mrs. C. & mailed my letters.
