1863 Novr 4th Since 24th Oct I have been from home a great deal they have been sewing wheat etc. got up lot corn & this week John Clark has been here pulling down & putting up little room chimney that he put up more than a year ago that fell from the House & would not do, finishing sowing wheat here to day Sewed about 20 Bus. here & 31 Bus at The Plantation in a Ring 50 inSet Mr Moorfield to sewing again & will 5 Bus more. all We have here 10 or 11 Stacks fodder here & 3 stacks Oats & 14 at Plantation & 9 stacks Oats in all.

6th got home last night. John has been putting up chimbleys this week to little room & New House, little rooms smokes got to make it higher to day, stealing Corn out of our fields on Creek & next to Beens [Ben's?] Halling up now off creek Sent Smith to mill.

11th Getting up Corn etc etc

20th Carried Carrd 1 more same purpose4 Logs to Keens Saw mill this day for floors of negro House began sugar corn & Rain put us out Sent Smith to Post office sent 3 letters 1 to Allan 1 to Jerry 1 to Sallie

1864 Novr 13 began to get up corn at home till Tuesday night I am sick this evening

16 Let all go to meeting to worship God under President Davis's request None scarcly went I was sick at home

17 Halling up & shucking corn my Pigs all up now 21 in number 3 sows & 1 Boar & 12 in Pen for meat here & 7 at Plantation

18 Halling & shucking corn began to rain in evening, not quite done Halling up my 21 pigs has damaged my corn very much cut up piney old field new ground

21st Novr. 1864 Our son Jerry got home last night in the night was gone upwards of 9 mos & a prisoner at ptLook Out & Elmira[?], ever since May last — Raining all night & day & continues Lucy C Steptoe come with Jacob

22nd Cleared Sent Mr Hurts mules homeoff. Sent Lowry to MillMillers with 2 Turns 5 Bus corn for meal 1 Bushel Keens Mill dam broke yesterdayWheat for me & 2 Bags cotton to pick 53 lbs & 49 lbs making 102 lbs Balance. Getting up our corn to day

30th. I went to meet Jerry & Met him at Mr. Faris below S. S. Meeting House.

1845 Feby 22 this week Mr Moon has got shingles to cover Old House & he Began to strip tobacco in Big Barn on Hill this day - 21st halled lugs out of Mr Grastys new ground this day.

26th Feby. Beautiful weather allmost like May- Jas C. Hunt married yesterday 25th Feby 1845 — Shingling our old House this day Burning log Heaps etc etc Plowing in mountain field Mr Moon left on Thursday 27th Feby & Irby on Friday 28th without finishing

March 1 Children started to school this day -Jeremy at Stony Point & Plowing -Planted Irish Potatoes, English Peas & onions etc etc began to prize Lugs

7 I went to Rice to meeting

8 Raining & we are stripping Tobacco weather changed & a good deal cooler In Jany 1845 made a bargain Mr Jas Murphy to Plaster my House & white wash it to be finished off as I want it for $45. But If I think myself this work is worth $47.50$ I am to give him that sum the two Dolls and fifty cents is at my discretion which sum of $45 I am to pay said Murphy March or april 1846 - this is our contract

1845 August 20th. Raised barn at new ground this day 22nd Henry this day gone to Doct Whites Mill with wheat corn & a stack & is to bring my Palings Home Fed sick yesterday & day before — Succoring & toping Tobacco this day

26th Picking Turnip Patch & finished Hilling up Lot at Henrys house My wife son Jerry & nurse Ann started from home on yesterday Sunday to go to Charlott cty Va on a visit to Mr Overbys & Moseleys with Mrs Hunt - Fanny White sick - fine rain yesterday Sunday

Monday 2526th. Clear fine day for travelling

Tuesday 26. clear fine morning Grubing & Phil cutting Henry & Fed gone to Mr L to raise houses — —

27. cutting on Branch & grubbing Mr Lewis spayed 14 shoats & cut six & Turned out 2 young sows & 1 boar Mrs Scrugs put cloth in the loom - My wife did not start to Charlott till Tuesday morning & Pleasant came here same day about 12 & stayed till next evening making ladden etc etc

28th Grubbing & cutting Henry getting slab timber I went to Jno D Hunts & Mrs Hunts, my dear Nanny been gone ever since last Sunday to charlotte, — time seems long

29 Topping succoring and worming Tobacco today - started a letter to Colo Smith about over our
