Sir, In my letter of Sept. 18th asking for a stove for Cape Blanco, I would respectfully state that the word Blanco is a clerical error and should read “Foulweather”.

Sir, I respectfully request authority to purchase a cook stove for the use of the principal keeper at Cape Blanco Light Station, as the one he has is entirely worn out & has been in use since the light was established.

Office of the Light House Engineer Thirteenth District Portland, Oregon July 26, 1873 Sir: I have the honor to make the following Report of Operations for the Month of June, 1873. Yaqunia Bay LH Ogn. Examined land with reference to 20 acres being sufficient for LH purposes. Cape Foulweather Lt Station Ogn. Shipped missing parts of Lantern from San Francisco. Sodded yard where wind was tearing away soil. Made arrangements for re-whitewashing tower. Probable Operations in July. Rewhitewashed Tower. Begin the erection of the Lantern. Point Adams Lt Station, Ogn. In company with Capt. Spotts LH Inspector, selected LH Site. Carefully examined different roads from Steamer landing as Fort Stevens, to proposed LH Site, and made rough plan & estimate for Road over the best route. Advertised for Proposals for Fog Signal Boilers for this station and New Dungeness LH Station, W.T. Cape Flattery Lt. Ho. W.T. Took men and materials to this station and area by completed carpenter work on Tank for Water. Commenced caulking tank. Probable Operations for July. Complete Tank and fill with water from cistern. Office of the Light House Engineer Thirteenth District Portland, Oregon, Dec 9, 1873

SIR: I enclose herewith for the information of Board, copy of a letter of the Hon J.H. Mitchell State Senator from Oregon, calling attention to the disposition on the part of the Light House Board to abolish the light at Yaquina Bay, Oregon. A copy of the letter of the Hon Ben Simpson on the same subject, transmitted with that of the Hon Mr. Mitchell is also enclosed. In this connection I have the honor to report that accompanied by the Commodore Spotts, Inspector of Lights, I left this city December 4th hesitant, for the purpose of visiting Yaquina Bay with the view of reporting upon the expediency of discontinuing the light at that station, but arriving to the unprecedented snow storm was unable to proceed beyond Albany. further up the Coast. The latter is a most prominent head-land, and the Lens is one of the First Order; that of the Yaquina Bay Light is only of the Fifth Order. No suggestions are recommended as to what distribution should be made of the Dwelling and Reservation.
