1853 Decr 3rd Given out all the negroes their shoes, Fed alse Jordan, Henry & malissa had Blankets this year or to day – clear & fair day weather very cool Brought Filmore Home this evening, Mr Miller School Broke up last evening

7th Sent 2 Logs to yates for scantling 16 went to Mrs McCullocks after Plows etc Balance Cutting & Grubbing in new ground

8th Henry Halling 1 Log to Yates for sheetingthis morning Balance Cutting Snowing this morning Haled another & then went to Mrs McC

9. Halled 2 this morning for sheeting plank & then an oak one for Box Plank & now one for Hhd Staves, Balance Cutting in new ground very cold to day look like for snow

12 Halling Rails Round fresh ground Cutting & Grubing in new ground fine weather John D Hunt & Lady here last Saturday night. Mrs Overby Died in Charlotte as we hear on morning between 5 & 6 oclock in morning the 10th Decr 1853 Elder Plunket Preached his last Sermon on Sunday & I paid him in behalf of the Church $65–00

15th Decr Begun to Burn Plant Bed on branch above House over 20 yds square took us 3 days nearly

17th Sent Henry to Farris Mill 1 Bbl Corn & 1 Bbl wheat.

19 went to Court stayed 2 days about Decree to Divide McCullocks Est.

1853 Decr 20 & 21st Cutting wood for Plant Bed etc Sent for Steer at Mrs Hunt got from John D Hunt. 25-6 & 7th cold & fair, finished striping Our fresh ground barn Tobacco Saturday before X, Just began to for Corn Plow

29th Snowed all day yesterday, Snow about 4 Inches Deep Cate & Jacob gone to Mr Fitzgeralds Mrs Mosely & overbys 2 children here yesterday & to day. My nannie gone with her to John D Hunts. clear & cold to day —

30 Went to CH about Decree, Rained & snowed all day

31 Done but little disagreeable weather,

Jany18541st Snowed again shelling corn all day

2nd Halling Logs to Yates & Paid & over paid the Logs I owed him, he is to give some difference in Logs in Plank & the Oak Plank for Boxes he is to allow me 1½ $ pr Hundred I have carried 1 Large Log for that purpose —

3rd Cutting etc etc

4 Halling wood waggon & Cart, Just Hitched Our young steers to day

5 all Hands Cutting Nannie & Cate gone to Mrs Hunts & Jerry & sallie I expect to go to D P Millers to day ¬

6 Sent to Farris Mill 2 Bbls grain & 3 Do for chop 3 Bags Cotton Picked Hired Out McCullocks negroes

9 Snowed again 5 or 6 Inches Deep

10 Halled up Ice to day - cold weather Snow melted but little

11 Striping Tobacco wrote to my Papa Raining all day Henry bottoming

16 Cutting in new ground & Plowing

17 Raining taking down prize Barn & Striping - etc etc.

1854 april 17th very disagreeable morning for Court, I cant go dreadfull night on stock of every description, etc etc Kitty rather better this morning tho sick yet

18. Still Cold Sent for Doct Thompson for Kitty he did not come yesterday Sent again this morning19th Snow on the ground yet. Heavy frost. Tobacco Plants nearly all Kill –

19th Heavy frost this morning — I did go to Court & Come back same day Carried Report of Commdr of Division of Jer. McCullock Est. by Patrick Grasty & Dickenson

20 went to Store to day to Adams & Ward Finished Coltering over new ground about finished breaking up corn ground listing ps this way in fresh ground for Corn will begin to Plant corn this evening at old House place at Stony point,

21nd Expect to uncover & Pick Plant Bed above House this mooring, then planting Corn again at stony pint etc Harrowing & listing in fresh ground

22. went to Meeting Mr Mason not there,fine weather etc Kitty better, not quite done planting corn at Stony pint

23 went to see Capt Gilbert & also to Mrs Hunts to day rained Coming home Fanny here & Mr Fitzgerald - fine weather

24 Finished planting at Stony pint & began in fresh field Jordan complaing to day tho Harrowing for

25 Jordan Sick this morning Planting corn in fresh field between the Ditches Fed gone to Mill 6 Bus. Corn for meal 2 Bushels wheat for me —

26 Lent Mr Crews Henry Clay to go to mill Planted Pepperin Plant Bed& watermellons in Potatoe Patch etc etc fine weather warm —

Jacob started to Meadsville to to School, Weather dry & Hot, we laid by our Corn about this time Plowing & Hilling up Our Tobacco Henry has been sick nearly a week & several of Our family – nearly got every thing clean about this time

say 26th Fine Rain yesterday. I was at Mrs McC. settling withem them went to Court House last week & got my accts settled by Comm Banks & it took nearly 12 Hours Halled up Our Oats this week, turn Out very well 5 stacks at mountain & nearly 5 at stony pint worked out our Branch Tobacco Potatoes Cotton etc etc this week fine weather about this time,

Plowing & Hilling up Tobacco at stony pint Killed Lamb etc etc at this time

28th Fine shower Rain this evening Finished Hilling up Tobacco at Stony pint Hilling up fresh ground & lot & Plowing it,– fine weather Mrs wooding etc etc here to day

30 Henry & Jordan Hewing sills for Corn house balance hilling up Lot by stable, Sandy Plowed at Mr Neals ps up this day cleaned out Ice house hot dry weather –

31– Hilling up our new ground Henry gone to Lynchg for Capt Stephen Clement I find myself he gives me $8– for the hhds If it weighs over 1200 lbs grows he is to pay 3/9 a hundred four all over, carried a parcel for one of capt clements negroes to pay 3/9 pr 100 lbs

5 Two or Three Showers of Rain the Past week & a fine Rain to day, choped in Corn got timbers for Corn house etc top our Tobacco yesterday – Henry got back Thursday

1856 Feby 15th This has been truly a rough Winter On me having to attend to Fannies W Fitzgeralds business to go to Charlott & to Meads ville on Jacobs acct & found Jacob sick in Charlotte, - & the weather so extremely rough snowy & Cold now cloudy & like for rain or Snow again, malling wood in new ground & Cutting there or rather in Second yrs ground Henry halled up little stack Oats this morning & then halling wood alse break =ing flax my wife gone to Mr Jno. D Hunts to day – –– &c. ————— Fixing this evening take down old prize Barn Tobacco - Lambs coming & Dying Sheep Dying one Sow missing this morning

1856. very cold & windy - since 15th we have been halling wood malling etc

Feby 18 went to Court Swapt Horses for Fannie Philip for Horse Top gave $25 for Boot Mrs Coleman Sow found Dead last Monday morning

22 Halled Logs to Yates Saw mill 2 or 3 days say 2 Logs for Palings & 2 for Railing etc Finished malling in new ground Raking for fence etc began to mall on mountain getting Garden Posts, Sent to Mill & got 8 Bus meal & 8 Bushel of wheat into flour Halled up stack fodder & leaves in old prize Barn & one back Garden I went to Chalk Level Colo Dickinsons etc to day, about Johns matter & wrote to A McKee about James McCullocks Debt etc

23 Malling & Cutting wood for Planton Road Bed Getting up Garden Post & halling wood Fine weather, loosing our sheep & lambs went to Riceville to day
