this hotel which is three quarters of an hours ride from here. We are going to the top of Vesuvius tomorrow. Mama will stay here as the trip to Pompeii was too hard for her dear Papa. I am so tired I will not write any more now I will write you again after I have been to Vesuvius. I hope dear Papa you will come to us soon, we are very tired of being here alone without you. Mama gets dreadful home sick

mixture of preserved rose leaves. We saw two other beautiful palaces but it would take a month to tell you all about them so I will wait till I get home. At Athens we had a very nice time meeting Mr & Mrs Schuyler, General Beale's daughter and Dr Schlieman and his wife. I bought a good many antiquities for my museum and papa gave me 4000 francs for its support. We saw lots of beautiful and wonderful things in Greece and enjoyed our stay very much. We had a very smooth passage from Corinth to Brindisi and I arrived at Naples without having been sick from Varna to here. Papa is pretty well except for his stiffness and does a great deal in the way of sight seeing. Mama and myself are not well just for the present because we have been going it too hard
