Pursuant to the law published notice The Council now porceeds to examine and equalize the assessment Rolls for the District established by Ordinance No 926 for the grading of Lane Street from Eighth Street to Fourteenth Street, Also for the District established by ordinance No 938 for the grading of Virginia Street from West Street to Fourth Street and no one appearing to contest the same and no objection being made to said assessment Rolls or either of them, on motion the same are approved.

537 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Jul 20 1888 Be it remembered that on the 20th day of July A.D. 1888 the Common Council of the City of Seattle met in its Council Chamber pursuant to law. The following officers were to wit: His Hon. T. T. Minor & Councilmen J. Furth, J. M. Frink, Joseph Green, T. W. Lake Robt Moran, U. R. Niesz & C. F. Reitze. Absent R. Russell, whereupon the following proceedings are had, to wit: Petitions etc Petition of J. D. Smith and others praying the Council to grant the application of H. W. Wheeler and his associates for a street railway franchise on Union Street from Second Street to Ninth Street. Read and referred to Street Committee. Petition of the Pacific Seattle Cable Road and Water Company for an extension of the time to commence work on said road. On motion the petition is granted, provided that the petitioner will file in writing with the City Clerk within ten(10) days its written consent that the City retain the $1000.00 now in its possession as a guaranty for the completion of its road within one year from this day, and that work on said road be commenced within sixty (60) days from this date. Remonstrance of Bailey Gatzert and others against granting A. S. Miller and others permission to grade Marion Street between Fourth Street and Fifth Street, read and referred to Street Committee. Petition of Geo. C. Monroe for permission to transfer his liquor license from the Arcade Saloon on Washington Street to the Mint Saloon on Main Street between Commercial Street and South Second Street. Granted. Petition of A. A. Denny and others for the changing of the grade on Second Street. Referred to Street Committee, and

609 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Sep 21 1888 Petition of Thomas R Hughes and others for the opening and grading of the Alley in Block 6 of D S Maynard's plat read and referred to the Committee on Streets. Petition of A A Denny for a sewer in Block 24 of A A Denny's Plat to connect with Union Street sewer read and referred to the Com on Sewers & Drainage. Petition of G H Beede for permission to stretch a canvas sign across Front Street between Marion & Columbia Streets opposite the Palace Restaurant read and on motion tabled. Communication from the City Surveyor submitting revised grade for Bluff Street read and approved and the City Atty directed to draw and submit an ordinance in conformity therewith. Communications from City Surveyor recommending slight change of grade on Wall Street corner of Fourth Street; Also recommending change of grade from 60 feet to 62 feet on Harrison Street at the East Side of Light Street Read and City Surveyor instructed to make the necessary changes suggested. 610 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Sep 21 1888 on Wall and Fourth Street read and granted under the usual restrictions. Petition of Margaret Sullivan in regard to the grade of Fifth Street at the corner of Terrace Street read and referred to the Committee on Streets & Street Improvements Petition of F H Peterson & others for the opening of Alley through Block 4 of Maynard's Plat read and referred to Street Committee. Communication from H F Frahm in regard to payment of Street Improvement warrants read and referred to the City Attorney. Petition of E F Adams and others for the revocation of liquor licenses granted L V Schnyder read and referred to Committee on License and Revenue. Petition from School Board of School District No 1 asking for the use of the Old North School House, (now occupied by Hose Co No 7) for school purposes. Read & granted on condition the school District puts up a suitable shed on the lots for housing the Hose Cart etc. Committee Reports Rec'd From Committee on License and Revenue rejecting petition of Mrs H S Parkhurst & others against granting a license for a slaoon on Second Street betweeen Cherry &Columbia Streets adopted. From Same Committee on petition of W R Brawley & others for revocation of Liquor license of Alden S Chase recommending that the said Alden S Chase be cited to appear before the Council at its next meeting and show cause why his said license should not be revoked. Adopted.

619 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Sep 28 1888 Virginia Street Tax Levy Ordered that a tax of One hundred and fifty one (151) Mills on each and every dollar of the assessed valuation of all propertyincluded within the assessment district created by Ord No 938 be and the same hereby is lveied on said property for the purpose of paying for the improvement of Virginia Street from West Street to Fourth Street in the City of Seattle. The Clerk submits an ordinance entitled "An ordinance to pay audited bills" which is passed by the following vote: Burns, Durie, Green , Jones, McCoombs McDonald and Reitze Against same none.
