China Town. Got to bed very tired at 2 o'clock.

Had tea at Mr. H. H. Webb's '75 on the 36th floor of the Woolworth Bldg. Watched the Joffre perade from Mr. Webb's office. Wrote letters til two A.M. in the morning. Mc Murrow, Wit Write & I went out to Grant's Tumb & along the Palasades of the Hudson.

Had conference with Mr. Herford over equipment. Met for Parade at 59th St. & 5th Ave. opposite the Plaza Hotel. Our young Stanford friend was there with the flag of the Stanford Unit and was going to march with us at his own invitation. the stage. Our flags have gained praise from everyone. The show seemed to be very good to those who could understand French. The American skit of two seasick men & one woman who they took to be French & turned out to be English was very good, and the musical program was good. Hank Howard, H. H. Howard, Kiefer, and Wit Write represented the U.C. Corps by singing some college songs and got away with it in fine style. We are now in the danger zone. The Captain is forcing his engines and the boat is trembling all over like the Key Route Boats. We are more than churning through the water, and there is a feeling of tencenous in the air. Everybody is rather nervous but putting on a brave frunt.

Wrested all day. Jack McKinley, Ben, Bert, Dick Wit Write and myself gave Herb Kendall a little champain party in the villiage (Jouaignes) Herb was twenty two years old.

Worked all day on car. Changed rear wheels. Rained very heavily in the evening. Just before lunch we had some American women visitors along with Princ Poniatowski, Miss Morgan, the Princess and Prince Poniatowaski's son. The Prince is a Frenchman with a Russian tital.

champain. Played baseball in the afternoon with 550. They won 9 to 3. After dinner went over to Lupeigne and went to the movies with Bert, Ben, & Bud & Eva. Got home at 12:30. Crafts sprained his ankle in getting out of the library.

Sunday, July 15, '17.

Went to church at Mont Notre Dame in the morning. Very interesting. Climbed to the top of the cathedral. Wonderful view of the frunt. The church that Joan D'Arc attended. A very noted cathedral. Wrote letters in the afternoon. Wit Write, Hank Howard, & Pery Patton went to the aviation camp in back of Bozoches & it went up. Engine went bad and had to come down soon. They got some very fine photographs of the German lines that aviators had taken

Saturday Sept. 15, '17.

Herb. Foster & I were on the dish washing quad [squad]. Wit Write & Mickie La Moine returned from permission. The eats we are having are great.
