After dinner went to the office & then to the French council, & to the French Line office and got passport and tickets fixed up. From there to the Ingersoll people, from there home. Went on top of the Hotel and took some pictures of the city. Spent the evening at the Black Cat.

had dinner at a swell Italian restaurant on Ben, as it was Ben’s birthday. Went to theatre, met some Canadian soldiers, went with them.

Worked all day handing out equipment & packing. Went for a walk with Bert Hope in the evening over to the Ifal Tower.

Sunday, June 3, '17

Got up at 5 A.M. Company formed, pictures taken. Left Paris for Soissons at 9:50. Reached Vierzy at 2:30. Detrained and drove in carvions to our camping ground in a woods near Dommiers. Soissons being on the front and under military rule we couldn't enter on the train. Saw the first used trenches and entanglements. Trenches & dugouts in the woods

Big air raid. Shrapnel fell all around camp. Attacked three times during the night. Very exciting. Altogether too close, seeing that we had no cover. Went out on convoi at nine. Caried 75 from Bozoches to Saint Marguerit. No excitement. Very dusty. Got home at seven thirty. Bert Hope and one of the 550 boys locked frunt wheels and had a regular colision. But was loaded with 75 and the first thing he thought of was are those things going off. Machine pretty badly smashed. One Frenchman getting a ride on the other car was hurt a little.

Dick, Cutie & I very low from the party the night before. Herb. Brown and Guy Colden left for Maux. The quartet gave probably its last concert. It impressed me very much. I couldn't help but think of the fraternity spirit that has grown up among the boys & it made me feel rather sad to think that the unit of 42 men was breaking up.

Foster & I washed No 11. Had a great time with Wit & Bert Hope in the small French Village. The natives had never seen any Americans and we stood on high with them.

Heard that the Boshe plane that we saw had to land at Soisons. The pilot was killed. and the observer got control of the machine. They had a picture of our camp in their camera.

in back of Brain and gave them a ride. A bunch of Cheffs passed in a Ford and boobed me, much to my enjoyment. Saw a good show at the Y.M.C.A.

Stayed in camp all day. Tom Manton took the car out and gave me a wrest. Went down to 526 and saw Grub Clover about aviation.

Went on early convoy. Bazoches to Braine, Brane to Measy. Then from Bucy la Longe to Vailly. Ben Burten and Bert Hope went to Soissons
