tell him I will answer soon. I rec'd the the papers today and was very glad to get them. I sent you a second division book the other day and hope you rec'd it. Tho't it might interest you as it gives the history of the second division and the part it did during the war. Also sent one to Wilfred and will send some more to different ones if I can get them.

I went to Neiuwed the other day to take in the 2nd division horse show but took in the town instead which nearly all of us did. It is quite a town. About the size of Santa Barbara I guess and is situated on the Rhine River. All of the stores have different kinds of souvenirs to sell the american soldiers. Iron crosses, belts rings and most anything you could think of. I bought several rings in remembrance of the Worlds war and an Iron cross watch fob & several other things. Sent Ida a post card folder of views around Coblenz. Will send more later. Am writing this letter in our Y.M.C.A. and eating cookies and chocolate caramels at the same time. We have been getting

Dear Edward:

Reached here at about 7.30 P.M. after having three punctures and being delayed in a garage from 12.05 till 3 P.M. in Salinas, California. On one tube the fellow put on cement patches fixed the tire on the wheel & zowie she popped.

Off it had to come twice, so finally decided to have it vulcanized. Took 1 hr & 10 minutes. It certainly was terrible. We go thru to Santa Barbara tomorrow.

I got your letter yesterday

I won't. I have the man I want and no other need come bothering me. Besides my thoughts are always for you no one else.

I know that I will have a good time because I always do wherever I am, only I hope the time will pass quickly. I am glad Mabel will be with us as she and I always have fun together. She and I always did get along well together.

Dearest, you can write to me at Santa Barbara, & if I should not get it on my way down I will when I get back from the yacht. You had better write on the envelope, if not called for within seven days return to 2001 Alameda Ave.

My dear old Sned:

I have just received your letter saying that you wont be home this week end. I am sorry because I like to have you around, but I have no doubt that you are quite right in staying at the University and putting in some good licks. On the other hand "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy".

Jos is working very hard i.e. the Mill has been running to 6 pm instead of 5. He will not know until tonight if he can get away tomorrow afternoon to go to Brookdale. They worked all last Sunday though Jos did not.

He and I are going to eat Spanish stuff at La Rosa's tonight as we are a little tired of cooking.

I suppose you know that John Balthasar Fritschi Eleanor Marion Rixon Fritschi & John R. Fritschi drove down in their machine last Saturday to Gonzales where they stopped at the Alpine Tavern. On Sunday they went to the Santa Maria Inn & on Monday they went to Santa Barbara. I suppose they reached Los Angeles Tuesday. They did not know where they would stay but said it might be the Hotel Clark. They said if Lesley wanted to come home, he could come back with them. I wrote Les to that effect and on Wed got a wire from him to know if Jack was coming and would he be able to come back with him So I suppose hes is coming up, but I dont think they will be

My dear little boy Edward:

I got your nice long letter, and you wrote it very nicely. I wanted to answer it before but I did not have the time. Today I am going to Santa Monica, and will see the Ocean with the big waves rolling on the sand. The water is warm and lots of people go in bathing, but I dont go. I think our house is the nicest in the world, because Mother and you and Jocelyn and Richard and Lesley and Norman are there, and I think that part of Alameda with the bay and the trees is most beautiful. I am sure you boys all like our home. Tell Mother I am too rushed for time to write and the mail goes in a few minutes. I am well but very tired as there were a lot of rough boys making a noise in the street up to three o'clock and they Kept me awake. Mr. Fores goes to Santa Barbara tomorrow, and expects to get to Alameda next Thursday so you will see him. Tell Mother I did not hear from her yesterday, and did not write either. Goodbye Edward. Be a good boy.

always your affect Father
