(front) Napoli -- Corso Vittorio Emanuele

(back) Naples 4/22/19

Came here last night from Rome, return to Rome in the morning. Had a wonderful day at Pompaii and Vesuvius. Nearly choked with fumes from the crater while looking down into it. Snowed while on the mountain which spoiled the view of Naples and the bay, which is very fine. Phil.

is somewhere between Montevideo and Hamburg. His birthday will be on the 26th of this month. The last report we have of his ship is that it sailed from Iquique on June 9th. Last night I got a fine letter from Dick. He had been to Gibraltar, then saw a bull fight in Spain. Then went to Tanjiers Tangiers and met the ex Sultan of Morrocco and there saw the original "Fatima" dance. He was on his way to Naples when he wrote. On the 3rd & 4th I was with Mother at Mt St Helena Inn. I took Joc up with me and left him there. It is a beautiful location and the scenery is grand. It is doing Mother & Edith lots of good, and I hope they will both come back well.

Mr. Spear met me on the boat & on the street when he was last down, and he spoke very highly of you. He was certainly most kind in giving you this trip, as you are old enough to remember it all your life. Please remember me very kindly to Mr. & Mrs. Spear and the boys.

We have just closed our books and made a sworn report of San Francisco premiums and lo and behold since Jan 1st we have doubled our income!!

Dear Snedward let me know when to expect you. Lots of love

always your loving father
