1848 Sept 30 Cutting Tobacco in big & little new ground & making Tobacco sticks Finished curing 2 Houses Tobacco & about prize Barn at this timefair & warm Sent Henry to Mr McCullocks & Exchanged Ten 10 Bus. wheat, as his is whiter than mine, mine is a little mixed, — with red wheat some how cut 625 sticks Tobacco in Lot - Second cutting in big & little new ground [lost in margin] sticks in second yrs ground is sticks, making in all
Oct. 1st Raining this morning & untill nearly 12 oclock, warm weather —
Oct 2 Cut & Hung up to this day 3000 & over. finished cutting in big new ground worming second yrs ground & succoring Halling wood & shoemaking —
3 Halling up old Top stack & stacking straw etc etc Fed shoemaking Sent 125 lbs old Iron to Miles Tuckers & sent Henry to Jno Tucker for 1000 shingles for X saw, worming & succoring Tobacco began to Pull Mountain field corn,
4th Halling Tobacco out of new ground to mountain field Barn & Halling corn home from mountain field
5 Housing Lot Tobacco shucking & Housing corn put in corn house about 13 Bbls
October 16, 1848 - November 2, 1848
1848 Oct 16 weather cloudy & like for Rain my wife gone to Mrs Hunts
17. Finished sewing fresh ground Tobacco Land 3½ Bushels sewed one that white from Mr McCullocks - weather cloudy & Rainy began to Hall up stalks from mountain field & sew that, Rainy & ground to[o] to Plowwet
18. Rained a fine Rain commenced Sewing Tobacco Lot this morning, white wheat from Mr McCullocks
29 Firing Tobacco & Digging Sweet & BushelsIrish Potatoes & finished sewing Lot
20 & 21st Firing Tobacco Halling stalks from mountain field & finished sewing that in wheat.
23rd gone to Mr. Jno D Hunts after Bricks to Lay Dining Room floor & get apples waggon & cart - cloudy & like for Rain Give Bro Angel got 525 Bricks 1½ Bus wheat carried it to Bro Yates for him about 10 agodays
24 Halling corn from stony with waggon 9 Loads this in all
30. Shucked out & put up corn from stony point. gathered corn at home 4 Loads & to day shucking that Halling up stalks from stony point Put up Fatting Hogs this day the Ballance say 19 now & 3 some time ago & Dick in yard

2nd Finished there & gone to stony pint

1848 Nov. 2 Fed shoemaking made 3 pr alse pulling off corn at stack & feeding Hogs with slops
3 Henry Paid Mrs Neal $2 sent by me McC from Mr gone to mill Whites 5 Bus corn 1 Bus wheat for himself & 1 Large Hart log for Railing 2½ by 3 Inches Very large frost this morning Shucking corn to day alse & Jordan
4 Finished sewing wheat this day & bushing sewed about 28 or 29 Bushels - Housed 6 or 7 Barrels corn more began to Rain to day & this night Raining nearly all night wind Blows very hard, Fed shoemaking, -
5 Raining this morning & quite cool wind from N West.
6 Killed little Beef, Fed shoemaking Laying dining Room floor
7 Do Do & shucking —
8. Killed 3 Hogs put up first & Henry went to saw & Grist mill, Doct Whites 3 Bus. Grain & 1 Large Log for paling, 3 Lengths Got one Turnip off branch the largest I ever saw. weighs 7 lbs & 26 Inches in circumference Cool frosty mornings Finishing shucking Corn & Housing this day -
9 Went to saw mill again 1 Large Log for Paling 2 lengths pulling up Greens & apples this day -
10. gone to saw mill 1 Log for Railing Fed shoemaking alse at kettle began to Snow a little
11 Halling Rails shoemaking spining etc etc likely to snow or Rain
December 5, 1848 - December 16, 1848
1848 Dec. got down part of mountain field barn & middle barn Began the 6th yesterday to cut small growth in big new ground Mr Myers & Henry putting up waggon shelter & getting slabs etc etc
9 Cutting little growth in big new ground Lila Halling wood yesterday Henry & Jordan gone to mill Finished waggon shelter etc etc, cloudy & like for Rain
11 Cutting in big new ground little growth Henry went to Doct Whites Mill 1 Large Log for Palings 2 Turns Corn 2 Bus. wheat & 2 Bushels for chop Screan
12 all hands striping Tobacco in field Barnmountain RainingRecd the flour meal & chop etcthis morning & a little cooler
13 Killed Poll for a beef - Henry gone to Doct Whites mill 5 Bushels Corn & 1 Large Log for Paling

1849 Feby 9th cleared off & weather moderate malling card wood out of new ground
10 clear & a fine day moderate
11 cloudy & like for Rain or snow malling & Plowing, for corn. alsecorn Landshrubing
17. Have been malling in new ground & Plowing ½ this day since 11th. Halling wood leaves Hay to granary for seed, & Halled up Oats etc. yesterday & to day burnt Plant Bed in big new ground & sewed & covered it this day
18. This morning snowing weather cold Had 5 lambs & lost 3 to this day -
20 went to Court yesterday 19. qualified as Exec. to Mr Jere McCullocks will weather cold & Clear snow 3 or 4 Inchesdeep shoemaking making swingling flax spining & making Bars etc etc to day sowing clover seed etc swingling fax & spining — cloudy & like for snow
22 Snowed again Monday evening & this morning again snow about 4 Inches deep yesterday & to day striping Tobacco in new ground barn got out our seed Oats yesterday, 3 stacks single
23 Finished new ground barn 12 oclock taking some down in prize barn & shelling corn still cloudy, snow melting
24 striping Tobacco in Prize barn weather moderate snow melting my wife & Cate & Jerry gone to Mrs McCullock
26 cloudy & like for Rain or snow. gone to mill malling & cutting Logs for barn - —
