1845 Decemr 1st last night rained & Hailed & sleet this morning 28th & 29th ^ noonI sent Henry to Mr Wm Collins Mill with 20 Bushels wheat to be ground into flour etc. he returned with 3 Bbls & about one Bushel flour 1/2 Bbl shorts 1/2 bbl shipstuff & about 15 Bushels Bran started one morning an hour besun [before sun] & returned next evening about sun Down. Killed our last Hogs 29th novr which day I went to Mr Hanfields & Mr McCullocks this morning 1st Decemr. continues to rain & we are shelling corn & spining Federick this 1st Decemr 1845 started to shoemaking at Mrs Hunts
2nd Decr. Hewed Plates for Jane & Henrys house Henry Halled up Mr Neals corn 1/2 the day - alse breaking flax Lila sewing —
13 This week D Lain framed the Top of new House & shingled it with my aid the 11th & 12th & this finished also nailed on Board on Henrys house
10th Decr. Commenced grubbing in new ground, 3 hands & little over half done, this 13th Decr, Kitty is sick taked sick Thursday or Friday - now very sick

August 14, 1858 - August 23, 1858
August 14th We are Toping & worming over Tobacco. Cloudy & like for Rain, Turned Cooler last night
15th Meeting at Strait Stone Broke up this evening 3 Baptized 8 or 10 mourners, I Sent by Henry Harris 20 Cents to Robt Harris in mistake in our settlement a few days ago Sent to Mill this morning 6 Bushels Corn
16th for meal ^& 3 Bushels wheat to be ground like corn for ourselves Toping & worming Tobacco this morning Very dry & nights cool every thing burning up — Demarcus Lain]D Lain came here this morning & we are going up to Cedar Hill to fix still Tup Barrels & put Lock on Cellar door etc Mr. Evans worked 3 days last week on Ditch cleaning out Ditch at 1½ cents a yard
17th Began to fix for thrashing made a little start in evening Lowry & Kitty here & Jacob 2 mules
18 Thrashing wheat till Dinner & then a fine Rain came upon us, very fine Rain, Halled up Fodder in evening & stacked it by Cotton Patch worming & succoring Tobacco in Lot
19 Finished Thrashing wheat this morning & went up to Cedar Hill carried Bed 3 Bbls Cider for Brandy & getting apples to make cider
20th Sewed Turnip Patch this morning all gone to Cedar Hill Beeting & getting up apples but Sandy, Sent little Henry to Faris mill & Hester to J. carried 3 Bus wheat for flour Mr Evans finished Ditching here pd him $3.65 this day-
21st Begun to still Mr Lain helped part of the day still 2 still fulls, Sandy Toping Tobacco Put up and pressed out 4 Bbls nannie came up this morning etc
22nd Came home Nannie stayed all night with me at Cedar Hill I stoped stilling about 10 Oclock in night No Rain yet, dry windyweather
23rd I went back to Cedar Hill to still Rum 2 still fulls card from home by 11 or 12 Oclockmonday night
August 24, 1858 - September 3, 1858
24th Doubled all day nearly & made upwards of Twenty Gallons Brandy - Pressed out Cider Beet apples with 4 of our hands balance with overseer worming & succoring finished Toping this day — clear & dry – Mr Lain went up to Cedar Hill worked on shelter gate etc stayed2 days
25 wormed & succoring over Tobacco overseer making me a pr shoes clear & dry
26 We Raised Barn at mountain –
27 Pulled down & moved overseers House alse & Jerry Smith worming & succoring Tobacco in Lot. Had Lowry here yesterday to help us Raise Barn,-
28th Began to put up overseers House it set in to Raining & Rained smartly thank the Lord, & then we went at again about 10 & Balance worming & succoring Lot Tobacco
29th went to Strait Stone meeting to hear Mr McLaughlin few Persons
30 working on overseers House shingling & sheeting I went to see Sarah McCullock,- worming succoring Tobacco,-
31st all except Sandy & Jerry smith gone to Cedar Hill to save forest, & I am stilling
Sept 1st at Cedar Hill Beeting cider &Stilling except Sandy & Jerry smith Toping & succoring Tobacco at mountain spring
2nd Same work 31st & 1st Sept this day we are at home pulling fodder clear & dry Sent little Henry to Miles Tucker for overseer to get Corn for him, & sent to mill for ourselves claiborne went & Carried 1 Turn Two Bus. Corn & brings back one [C] 3 Turns there, stilling at Cedar Hill
3rd working in Tobacco & Fodder & I am stilling at Cedar Hill made upwards of 14 Gallons Brandy
