5th All hands gone to malling Plowing etc But it set in to Raining & we are going to strip Tobacco in new prize Barn Jerry started yesterday morning wednesday to go with Henry Clay to go with Mrs Clement to CH Lowry Ran away & come down here first of this week I sent Jerry with him back & I hear that Malissa is cutting [swills?] etc etc etc got a Letter form Jacob P. the 1st of this month, answered it forthwith & wrote to Cousin Cleo too to council him at Cap^t Boxleys

6th Burning Brush malling Prizing Tobacco Shelling corn & then Plowing up Lot for Tobacco. Turned off cool & clear Mr Crews help me striped Tobacco yesterday went to see Cap Fitzgerald to day & settled with him for Fannie W Fitzgerald as Gudn & Exer & took in her bonds for Hire & Rent 1856 —

7th Very cold & windy this morning Sent Jordan to Mill 1 Barrel corn for meal first of the new crop we have sent to mill 2 Turns at mill to bring is old corn, Sent Handcock 3 Gallons Vinigar malling in new ground Plowing Kate & Sallie came down here this evening

8th Nannie Kate & Jere went to meeting to Riceville very cool cloudy day -

9th Plowing malling & cleaning out fence Row around new ground expect Halling up Oats fodder & chaff this evening Cool & cloudy & like for falling weather Lent Andrew Crews a horse to go to mill to day

13th Hilling at new ground Halling out manure waggon & cart & 5 hands cool weather

14th Hilling at new ground fine Rain last evening & night, taking down good Tobacco this morning in old prize Barn cloudy & like for Rain this morning Hester folded a mare Colt mule, 12th May 1857 called Molly went 11½ months this time

15th Fixing to Plant Irish Potatoes greens & Cotton to day, Jordan Croping, Hilling at new ground; cloudy & like for Rain, Halling out manure,- with waggon to day — Planed cotton Irish Potatoes Simblings watermellons Cucumbers etc Potatoe Pumpkins 1 square of Greens Planted in Garden, Jordan finished Coltering at new ground this evening Mrs Clements & Nannie started to Riceville with Henry Clay & Mule & got the other side of Bridge & had to take buggy — Henry not done Halling out manure yet -

16th Halling Out manure Jordan halling rails awhile & then will help Henry till he finishes Balance Hilling at new ground & trying to finish to day -

17th went to meeting at Strait Stone

18th Went to Court Bot Buggy of Mr Hunt 2 Setts Harness for Fannie White at $154.12

19th Got Back from Court with Buggy Monday & Tuesday it rained & we did not do much chop in Oats cleaned of fresh ground Picked up roots at new ground made Scare Crows etc.

1858 Oct 19 Cutting down corn at Cedar Hill & fixing Land for wheat here Cutting down & stacking Corn & sewing wheat nearly done next to orchard –

20th Oct overseer Jordan & claiborne gone to Cedar Hill to commence overseers House this morning balance here & there same as yesterday a little cloudy this morning Cut & spayed Hunts sows shoats about a a week ago, 8 in number —

21st overseer Jordan & claiborne at Cedar Hill Cutting Logs for his House to live in next ^year We finished Sewing wheat here to day sewed 21 Bushels Twenty one, this evening pulling Corn by malissas House from chickens alse & Jerry Smith scouring out overseers House here; Sent Lowry & Jim to Cedar Hill. Plowing for wheat in LotMr Wyatt Rounding & Jointing shingles 2900 @ 4/6 pr Thousand & I have agreed to give him $1 pr day & put a hand with him from the time he begins after fixing the shingles, say next monday morning —

22nd we all went to work on Road from Dews to Codeys to day - Balance shucking corn picking out Cotton

23rd Sent Henry to Faris mill with 1 Log 8 or 9 Bus. wheat for flour & & Bus corn for meal Balance gathering corn Mr Chumbly fixing corn shelling Room Housing Corn etc gathering cotton to day. I am going to Riceville etc & Cedar Hill flour Plank to go there this ^evening at home this day Mr J D Hunts Lucy Ann here etc

25th Began to sew wheat at Cedar Hill & Mr Wyatt & Henry shingling dwelling house Mr Chumbly at Here sewing wheat etc etc.

23rd Nannie carried Sallie up to school Planting tobacco in Lot in evening fall dry- I think cleared off cool

24 Planted some this morning went after corn at Kelleys — Beding Lot weeding corn

25 Beding Lot I went to Riceville to hear Graves from Tennessee Preach weeding Corn, Sent for Hog at Mrs Harris s this morning got him & altered him & put him in Pasture,

26. Done fixing Lot for Tobacco – Plowing & weeding Corn,- I went down to planting aspen Grove,- they have planted bout 50 or 60, thousand Tobacco Hills =Fine weather to Kill Grass.

27th Halling Rocks for Chimney for Henrys House to day & weeding corn - Nannie gone to CH to see Jerry & hear Ja^s R Graves of Tennessee Preach, this mondy & expects to return tomorrow,- fine weather now

27th Went to Election at Chalk Level few poeple there weeding corn halling Rock for chimney been over corn one time with colter & Harrow,

28 Planting Tobacco to day all day Bybee helped with 2 hands from 11 Oclock till night Nannie gone to CH - with Nannie & Lucy Finished planted Lot Tobacco & replanted in Lot that we planted first.-
