Petition of citizens of Houghton & vicinity praying that the road to Laurel Shade be put in good repair. Referred to Street Commitee. Petition of W H Silber et al, for opening Alley through Block 18 Maynard's Plat . Referred to Street Commitee. Petition of A Levin & Co for permission to put an addition onrear of cigar store 9 x 19 feet in size on East Side of Commercial Street. 194 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE May 20 187 From Street Commottee on petition of Geo L Howe et al to grant Otis Preston permission to erect a cigar stand on southwest corner of Washington & South Second Street recommending that the same be granted. Adopted From same Committee recommending that Pike Street be planked from the east side of Front Street to the east side of Sixth Street said planking to be laid on the south side of said street sixteen (16) feet wide; also that one block be planked on the east side of Eighth Street between Pike & Pine Streets. Adopted From same Committee on remonstrance of W H Davis et al against the opening Republican & Natchez Streets rejecting the said remonstrance. adopted. From Same Committee rejecting petition of W H Surber for opening alley through Block 18 Maynard's Plat adopted. From same committee rejecting petition of Jno S Anderson for a wooden drain between James & Jefferson Streets as the committee does not deem it practicable to put a wooden box in between said streets. Adopted. From Judiciary Committee rejecting petition of M V Stewart forthe refunding of $45.18 grade tax. adopted. From Committee on HEalth & Police recommending that the suggestions made by the Health Officer in his quarterly report be adopted. On motionthe report is adopted and the City Surveyor instructed

221 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Jul 1 1887 Report for Fire & Water Committee on communication of Chief of Fire Department regarding the Telephone Fire Alarm system recommending that the telephone wires connected with the Fire Alarm System be changed as suggested in said communication. Street Committee given until the next regular meeting to report upon the widening of Second Street and South 3rd Street Ordered that the alley on Block 18 Maynard's Plat be opened and the Street Commissioner directed to make the said alley passable for teams. Ordinance 809 On motion theorder of business is suspended and an ordinance entitles "An Ordinance to widen extend and establish Second Street in the City of Seattle W T and to provide for the condemnation of real estate necessary therefor" is introduced and after due considation is passed bythe following vote, viz: In favor of the same Furth, Frink, Coulter, Lake, Russell & Reitze. Noes T D Hinckley Applications for Liquor Licenses Referred Melhorn & Probst, Fred Schollp, Wm Garrett, H Carson Chas Norager, Geo Meister and J K Myers Licenses Ordered Issuec Richard Pritchard, Beede & Sinclair, Chas F O'Hara, Becker & Fox, Blanchard & Campbell.
