197 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE May 20 1887 same is on motion approved. On motion the Committee on Harbor and Wharves directed to repair and put in good condition the Fire slips along the water front. On motion one double fire plug is ordered placed on Yesler's Wharf under the direction of the Chief of the Fire Department. Ordinances An Ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An Ordinance to prevent the overcrowding of sleeping apartmants in lodging and tenement houses and other buildings for the preservation of health'' which after due consideration is passed by the following vote: In favor of the same Furth, Frink, Green, Hinckley, Lake, Russell & [Reitze]]. Against none. An Ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "AnOrdinance to prevent injury to the hose of the Fire Department and obsructing the Streets during fires'' which is passed by the following vote: In favor of the same Furth, Frink, Green, Hinckley, Lake, Russell& [Reitze]]. Against none. An Ordinance is submitted by the Clerk entitled "A Special Ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills'' which is passed by the following vote viz: Ayes Furth, Frink, Green, Hinckley, Lake, Russell & [Reitze]]. 660 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Nov 16 1888 1017 Clerk of the City of Seattle to enter into a stipulation with H L Yesler in reference to driving piles in front of and to the westward of Columbia Street prolonged in the waters of Elliott's Bay of the City of Seattle" which is passed by the following vote viz: In favor of the same Burns, Durie, Jones, McCombs, McDonald Reitze. Against the same none. Councilman Niesz not voting. 1018 An Ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An Ordinance granting to the Commercial Mill Company]] the right to erect poles and stretch wires thereon for Electric pruposes" which is passed by the following vote viz:In favor of the same Burns, Durie, Jones, McCombs, McDonald, Niesz and Reitze. Against the same none. 1019 An Ordinance is submitted by the City Clerk entitled "A Special Ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills" which is passed by the following vote viz: In favor of the same Burns, Durie, Jones, McCombs, McDonald, Niesz and Reitze. Against the same none. Claim of David Ferguson The City Atty makes a verbal report on the claim of David Ferguson for damages for injuries sustained by being run over by a hose cart at a fire on Yesler's Wharf. That the said Ferguson has no legal claim for damages against the city but as he is an old man, and indigent, he recommends that the City pay the claimant the sum of $200.00 On motion the report is adopted and the clerk instructed to draw a warrant in favor of said David Ferguson for the sum of $200.00, upon the said Ferguson filing a release of all claims against the City in the office of the City Clerk.

663 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY SEATTLE Nov 23 1888 Communication from P P Carroll enclosing affidavit of Louis Engles in the matter of claim for damages made by said Engles against the City, read and referred to the City attorney. Petition of Sisters of Charity Providence Hospital for a fire plug at or near Corner of Spring and Sixth Streets read referred to Commitee on Fire & Water. Communication from Denny & Horton in regard to unpaid Street grade warrants, read and referred to Finance Commitee in conjunction with the City Attorney. Petition of Geo Newell and others for planking Colfax Street from the City limits north a distance of 1900 feet read and referred to the Street Committee. Petition of G S Dudley and others for a Street Light Corner of Thirteenth and Howell Streets read and referred to Committee on StreetLight. Communication from Board of Trade conveying resolution of the Board endorsing the City Council in leaving Yesler's Wharf. read and ordered filed. Petition of H F Whitney and others for extending Natchez Street, read and referred to the Street Committee. Report of the Chief of The Fire Department in the matter of buildings put up within the fire limits without permission read and on motion of Councilman Durie the Street Commissioner is ordered to move or tear down the buildings that have been erected with out permission and that the street Comn'r keep account of the expense of such work.
