299 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Sep 16 1887 From same Committee granting petition of John Wickland & Others for a box drain Corner Sixth and Pine Streets Adopted. From Same Committee on Communication of Street Commissioner in regard to defective sidewalks as follows: "We recommend that the following portions of sidewalks be condemned and new sidewalks ordered built: On the North side of Cherry Street between Fifth and Sixth Streets; On north side of Marion Street between Fourth & Fifth Streets; & on West side of Front Street between Pike and Union Streets From Committee on Fire &Water on report of Chief of the Fire Department, recommending that the city appropriate $250. for the purpose of sending a hose team to the Spokane Fireman's Tournament. Adopted. From City Attorney recommending that a quit claim deed be given by the City to Charle Hart for Lot 4 Block 20 in Bell & Denny's Plat, Also that the claim of G W Crane for $50.96 account 'tax certificates issued on double assessments be paid. Also that Myra C Ingraham's claim of $38.61 for same cause be paid. Adopted. From City Attorney on Communication of Justice H F Jones in regard to officer's fees. Ordered filed and Councilman Furth gives notice that at the next meeting of the Council he will move to increase the salaries of Police Officers. New Plats Plat of Madison Street Addition to the City of Seattle and James Addition to the City of Seattle referred to City Surveyor.

321 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Nov 4 1887 Be it remembered that on this 4th day of November 1887 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law. The Following officers are present, viz: Mayor T T Minor and Councilman J Furth, J M Frink, Joseph Green, T W Lake R Moran, U R Neisz, R Russell & C F Reitze and W A Forrest Clerk. Whereupon the following proceedings are had. Petitions and Communications Petition of L Otto & others for street lights inPine St from Fourth Street to Seventh Street, read and referred to Committee on Street Lights. Petition of Geo E Clancy and others for a Fire Plug corner of Fourth and Washington Streets, read and referred to Committee on Fire & Water. Communication from John Leary President of the Seattle Construction Company accepting the franchise granted said company by said Ordinance No 878 read and ordered filed. Communication from Francis W James asking the Council to take action on plat of James Addition to the City of Seattle submitted for approval, read & on motion tabled for the present. Communication from J M Bennett in regard to nuisance on Commercial Street opposite Arlington Hotel, next to the place of business of the said Bennett, read and on motion the Chief of Police is ordered to abate the nuisance immediately,

329 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Nov 4 1887 to private property that such parties deposit with the City Clerk that sum of Twenty (20) dollars to be retained by the City until the sidewalk or street is replaced in as good condition as found & not to be refunded except on the written order of the Street Commissioner. Ordered that a tax of thirty eight (38) cents on each and every dollar of the assessed valuation of all the property included within the Assessment district created by Ordinance No 815, be and the same hereby is levied on said property for the purpose of paying for the property condemned by said ordinance No 815 and for condemnation proceedings. It having been suggested to the Council that the appraisers heretofore appointed to assess the damages and benefits accruing by reason of the Expansion of Natches and Republican Streets under Ordinance No 559 have failed to qualify, and that M R Maddocks, one of the appraisers had left the City for an indefinate period, on motion His Honor the Mayor appointed Harold Preston to act as such appraiser on behalf or the city, M R Galloway on behalf of the owners of property condemned and L B Andrews on behalf of the owners of property benefitted. On motion the plat of James Addition to the City of Seattle is rejected for the reason that the same is principally in patented land outside of the meander line. Also because the notary public before whom the asknowledgement was taken failed to offer his official seal, and the separate acknowledgement of the wife is not taken. On motion the plat of the D M Crane addition
