128 On motion City Attorney and Mayor were authorized to proceed to collect Grade tax as per assessments from Property abutting on Angeline and Columbus Streets On motion Street Committee was instructed and empowered to drain water from Ferdinand Street at Rainier Ave: Mayor appointed F J Brown and A A Hepler as members of the Finance Committee. 178 Columbia City Wash March 7th 1898 The Town Council of the Town of Columbia met in regular session at 8:35 o'clock with Mayor Reeves in the chair. Roll call answered by Cameron, Osgood and Hepler. Minutes of previous meeting read and approved. Verbal report of City Attorney heard regarding street grade and road tax matters. Clerk's bond presented and accepted by regular motion. Attorney's bond presented and accepted by regular motion. Marshal reported his bond as not completed and there being noobjection, further time was granted him in which to file said bond. On motion water main was ordered laid or exended along Ferdinand Street and also to the sidewalk fo house occupeid by C S chase for connection and the matter referred to the Water Committee. Petition for road repairs by A Mattiesen heard and on motion the Marshal and Street Committee were instructed to utilize the dog tax and poll tax of the town in making repairs on Noble St Hill Board of Health reported organization and election of officers as follows: J A Laurence, chairman, J A Campbell, secretary, and H E Brooks, Health Officer. By request Council gave permission for the Health Officer to issue a proclamation to all those in charge of vaults and garbage piles to have the same attended to according to recognized sanitary measures. 179 Columbia Wash April 4th 1898 The Town Council of the Town of Columbia met in regular session with Mayor Reeves at the chair. Meeting called to order as 8:30 o'clock. Minutes of previous meeting read and after some discussion, they were approved as read. Mr Osgood as Water Committee reported that Mr Marshall had decided to lay his water pipe from Mr Groat's connection instead of water main on Ferdinand Street as per petition granted at last regular meeting. Mr Hepler of the Street Committee reproted on Noble Street Hill matter and reprot was accepted and the Street Committee authorized to purchase 1500 feet of lumber for drains and other necessary feathure of repairs to be made on said Noble Street Hill and to expend not exceeding $25. in addition to the poll tax in making such repairs. Petition of Joseph Helenthal for extension of time in which to move his barn as per notice given by the Street Committee Granted and time extended to thirty days./ On motion it was ordered that the Raininer Avenue Electric Ry Co be notified that inasmuch as the time of their free use of city water expired April 1st 1898 they would be charged the sum of $1.50 per month hereafter. Bond of Marshal Whittington read and accepted and filled with the Clerk. By regular motion warrants were ordered drawn on the Current Expense Fund for the Clerk's, Attorney's and Marshal's salary. Bill presented by S T Whittington in the sum of .45 cts for nails, dog tags, etc. accepted and warrant ordered drawn on the Current Expense fund for the amount. Marshal's quarterly report read and accepted. Clerk's quarterly report read and accepted. On motion Council Adjourned. C F Reeves mayor C S Chase clerk
