146 On the recommendation of the Marshal and on motion the folowing rebates were allowed on water rents: W S McCurley for the monthof Sept W S McGarvin for the months of Nov & Dec Mrs Chase for the month of August and C Cameron for the month of Dec. On motion General Fund warrants were ordered in favor of the Salaried Officers as follows: J A Kelso Clerk's Salary for Oct, Nov, & Dec. 1896 $25 W S McCurley Attys Salary for Oct, Nov, & Dec. 1896 $30 C P Hutchinson Marshal Salary for Oct, Nov, & Dec. 1896 $18 the Following Bill of Election Officers was read: C H Hepler, Inspector H E Brooks and Jose Hellenthal, Judges in the sum of $4.70 each being for 12 hours seervice & Ordinance No 66 fixing the compensation of election officers at 25 cts per hour being passed at the regular Meeting to said ordinance and that General Fund warrants be ordered as follows: C R Hepler 12 hours @ 25 cts 3.00 H E Brooks 12 hours @ 25 cts 3.00 Jose Hellenthal 12 hours @ 25 cts 3.00 On motion Council Acting as a canvassing Board proceeded to canvass the returns of Election held on Dec 8th 1/96 As returned and certified by election Officers: The Clerk being duly sworn StateS that he received that Poll Book of said election from C R Hepler Inspector. and that the said Poll Book has been in his posession ever since and that the same has not been changed in any way: The Board after carefully examining that said Poll Books and Tally Sheets find that C F Reeves received 17 votes for Mayor and F M Woodruff received 16 votes for Mayor Chas Cameron received 18 votes for Councilman Thad Osgood received 19 votes for Councilman R H Heston received 15 votes for Councilman F S Barrell received 16 votes for Councilman Terms of Councilman to 2 years Carried forward

177 Columbia City, King Co Wash Feb 7th 1898 The town Council of the Town of Columbia met in regular session at 8 o'clock PM withMayor Reeves in the chair, Roll Call answered by Cameron, Osgood and Hepler. Minutes of last session read and with the addition of list of committees and Board of Health for the ensuing year were approved. Report of Marshal, and Attorney was deferred until next regular meeting. On motion Mr J A Kelso was elected to the office of municipal judge, vice L A Osgood, vacated. Mr R H Heston having failed to qualify his office was, by regular motion, declared vacant, and Mr J W Laurence elected to fill the place. Resignation of Marshal J H Garber read and and accepted. On motion Mr S T Whittington was elected to that office. Request from Mr H H A Hastings that the expense of putting in water connection with certain described property, to wit: $2.50 be allowed and applied on the water rent accruing on said property, read and granted On motion warrant was ordered drawn on the Current Expense Fund for the sum of $6.50 in favor of J H Garber for salary as Town MArshal in full to date. By regular motion Council adjourned. C S Chase clerk Ordinance establishing salaries of Town Officers read and passed. C F Reeves mayor

192 Monday inDecember 1898 for the election of a Mayor for a term of two years, Three Councilmen to wit: for terms of two years each, and one for term of one year. The former to succeed Cameron and Osgood expired and the latter to succeed Lawrence, appointed to fill vacancy of R H Heston duly elected in December of 1897; and a town treasurer for term of one year. Mr Reeves being called from the meeting motion made and carried that Mr C R Hepler be chosen to act as Mayor pro tem. The tax levy for the Town of Columbia for the year 1898 was fixed at six mills on each dollar valuations for Indebtedness Fund and six mills on each dollar valuation for Current Expense Fund, making a total of 12 (twelve) mills on each dollar valuation of taxable property in the corporate limits of the Town of Columbia Then by regular motion meeting adjourned.
