373 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Jan 11 1883 Be it remembered that on this 11th day of January 1888 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment. The following officers are present, to wit: Mayor Thomas T. Minor & Councilmen J. Furth, J. M. Frink, T. W. Lake, R. Moran, U R Niesz, & C F Reitze & W R Forrest Clerk whereupon the following proceedings are had, to wit: Petitions etc Petition of N J Hanson & others for street lights at corner of 9th Howell Sts, 9th & Stewart Sts, 10th & Stewart Sts, 10th & Virginia Sts & 11th & Virginia Sts, read & referred to Committee on Street Lights. Petition of John Cort for permission to transfer his liquor and theatre licenses to the New Standard Theatre Corner of Washington & South Second Streets. Granted. Petition of F Hochbrunn for permission to remove stumps by blasting from Block "Q" Bells 6th addition read & granted for a period of ten (10) days the petitioner to be personally responsible for any damages caused by reason of said blasting. Petition of John Cort for permission to put up a Canvas sign across Washington street read & granted. Communication from D L McCowan asking that the street Commissioner be directed to remove a fence from across the alley in Block 26 of Bell & Denny's Addn read & City Atty. decided to prosecute the protector of said fence for maintaining a nuisance. Petition of Robt Abrams & others for planking Washington street from Commercial Street to Seventh Street read & referred to Committee on Streets.

374 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Jan 11 1888 Ordered that Timothy Ryan be granted permission to blast at Corner of Madison & Sixth Streets for a period of ten (10) days said Ryan to the personally responsible for any damages that may occur by reason of such blasting. Committtee Reports Rec'd From Street Committee & Judiciary Committee to whom was referred the surveyor's final estimate on the North end of Seventh Street report that they have remeasured the lumber used on said street street with the following result. Quantity used as estimated by City Surveyor 321,296 feet. Quantity as estimated by your Committee 322,871 or a difference of 1575 ft. in favor of the Contractor Mr. Wilson. Adopted. On motion the matter of Madison Street grade at north end said street is re-referred to the Street & Judiciary Comittees with power to employ other surveyors and to take evidence if considered necessary. Ordered that the Council do now adjourn. Against the same, none. Ordered that the Council do now adjourn. Attest W R Forrest Clerk Approved Acting Mayor Feb 3 1888 Be it remembered that on this 3rd day of February AD 1888 the Common Council of the city of Seattle meets in its council chamber pursuant to law. The following offices are present to wit: Mayor Thos. T. Minor & Councilmen J. Furth, J. M. Frink, Jos Green T. W. Lake, R Moran, U. R. Niesz, R Russell & C. F. Reitze & W R Forrest, clerk.
