373 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Jan 11 1883 Be it remembered that on this 11th day of January 1888 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment. The following officers are present, to wit: Mayor Thomas T. Minor & Councilmen J. Furth, J. M. Frink, T. W. Lake, R. Moran, U R Niesz, & C F Reitze & W R Forrest Clerk whereupon the following proceedings are had, to wit: Petitions etc Petition of N J Hanson & others for street lights at corner of 9th Howell Sts, 9th & Stewart Sts, 10th & Stewart Sts, 10th & Virginia Sts & 11th & Virginia Sts, read & referred to Committee on Street Lights. Petition of John Cort for permission to transfer his liquor and theatre licenses to the New Standard Theatre Corner of Washington & South Second Streets. Granted. Petition of F Hochbrunn for permission to remove stumps by blasting from Block "Q" Bells 6th addition read & granted for a period of ten (10) days the petitioner to be personally responsible for any damages caused by reason of said blasting. Petition of John Cort for permission to put up a Canvas sign across Washington street read & granted. Communication from D L McCowan asking that the street Commissioner be directed to remove a fence from across the alley in Block 26 of Bell & Denny's Addn read & City Atty. decided to prosecute the protector of said fence for maintaining a nuisance. Petition of Robt Abrams & others for planking Washington street from Commercial Street to Seventh Street read & referred to Committee on Streets.

From Same committee granting petition of Geo G Lyon et al for opening High Street from Temperance to Banner Streets Banner Street from High to Allen Streets and Allen St from Banner to Light Streets. Adopted. From Same Committee granting petition of D N Hyde & others for opening Roy Street from Light to Victory Streets and Victory Street from Roy to Bluff Streets. Adopted. From Same Committee rejecting petition fo J M D McDermott and others for opening portion of 5th Street & Brook Street as Sixth Street has been opened and Brook Street should be graded and sewered when opened. Adopted. From Same Committee granting petition of Hugh S Taylor & others for grading and laying sidewalks on Bell Street from 5th to 7th Streets and that the City Surveyor be instructed to furnish plans and specifications so bids can be advertised for and submitted at the next regular meeting. adopted. From same committee granting petition of Wm McCoy for permission to put a boot black stand on South Second Street near New Standard Theatre. Adopted. from same Committee granting petition of A A Bell & others for grading Depot Street from Elliotts Bay to Fir Street & directing the City Surveyor to submit plans & specificationat the next regular meeting. Adopted. from same Committee granting petition of Fred Wilhilm & others for grading Cherry Street from 4th to 13th Streets
