To the Honorable the City Council of Seattle At a meeting of Engine Company No 2 held at the Engine Room April 16th 1884. The following resolutions were unaminously passed. 1 that we as a Company have read and carefully considered ordinance No 536 creating a Fire Department for the City of Seattle. That we consider the ordinance requisite regulated fire Department and earnestly protest to any alteration in any part there of abridging or in anyway changing the duties of my Officers who may be elected under any of its provisions. 2 That the Company would represent to the Council the helpless condition of our Company at the present time in the event of fire. by reason of the great length of the Inclines to water, with our present supply of hose. We could do nothing at any fire East of the West side of Front Street Our hose only reaching to the sidewalk on the west side of Front Street. And we would respectfully adk your honorable body to make such disposition of the supply of hose on hand as will give us an equal opportunity to do service in the Time of fire. Respectfully Submitted Jos V McMullan G Kellogg Jas G Boulin committee
