Mar 2 1888 Ordered, that the matter of the Columbia Street Improvement west of Front Street be made the special order of business for the adjourned meeting of the Council. Ordered that the Plat of Rutland Addition to the City of Seattle be referred to the City Attorney. Ordinances An ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An Ordinance Establishing the grade of Fifth Street between Union Street and Depot Street" which is passed by the following vote, viz: Ayes Furth, Frink, Green, Lake, Moran, Niesz & Russell. Nays. None. An ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An Ordinance to provide for the grading of Birch Street in the City of Seattle from Depot Street to Harrison Street and constructing a sidewalk on both sides thereof" which is passed by the following vote, viz: In favor of the same Furth, Frink, Green, Lake, Moran, Niesz & Russell. Against the same, none. Ordered that the City Surveyor submit [lans and specification and the Clerk directed to advertise for bids for building wharves on Commercial and South Second Streets. Ordered that the Street Committee be instructed to present a feasible plan for opening West Street south to Union St, also opening the alley west of Front Street from that point south. Plat of Mountain View Addition to the City of Seattle approved On motion the plat of Rutland is rejected. The Following officers are present to wit: His Honor the Mayor Thomas T Minor Councilmen Furth, Frink, Green, Lake, Moran, Reitze and Russell, and W R Forrest clerk. Petitions and Communications Petitions of Robert Abrams for permission to remove and alter a wooden building on Front Street near Pike Street read and referred to Committee on Fire and Water, Petition of A L Palmer for permission to alter and repair a wooden building on Front Street near Pike Street read and referred to Committe on Fire and Water. Petition of Frank Dupont for permission to erect a one story building to be used as a fish market at the foot of Madison Street read and referred to Committee on Fire & Water Communication from Austin A Bell to the council as follows: "Will you kindly confer upon the undesigned the pleasure of presenting to your Captain of Police James H Woolery through your honorable body, the accompanying cane to show my appreciation of his bravery and presence of mind in preventing a serious accident to my family on Sunday evening March 25th 1888.
