My Wish for you

The best wish for you is not the wealth that men may store against a rainy day, Time is a thief most cunning in his stealth, Who will but doom your riches to decay I would not wish for you the proudest name, That man can cry aloud to curse or bless Nor would I wish you any need of fame Lest fame departing leave you loneliness

This is my deepest wish - that you may know

Dear Dr Van Waters I pray that you were not heaped in work & disturbed because I called.

Lonely was I & just had to see if you were well. Mrs Ripley was here to visit & she is a true Ranger & devoted friend of Framingham. My heart was in despair until knowing that you were still to remain in Framingham. The picture I am enclosing of Bishop Lock brings back to mind the

[writing on left hand side] evening he addressed the Student Body Dr Van Waters , here at Long Island they have connected with the Chapel a Broadcasting System which is Amplyfied to all shut in. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the same could be done at Framingham so the Hospital shut ins could benefit in all services & all activities held in the Chapel.

My thoughts are always with you & Framingham. I maybe not the writing Student Dear Dr - to share in your kindness yet, I do try to do all I can to follow in the steps of a true Ranger. Last evening I walked over to the Chapel & lit a Vigil Candle before the Statue of the Lady & offered my prayers in memory of a

McLean Hospital C O P Y

June 7th, 1951

Dear Mrs. Wellsman:

You will notice of course the paper I am writing on. I have been here going on to a year now as nurses aide. Margaret Newton was here for a while. Hope she is not back with you. She certainly had her troubles.

I just love it here as I find the work helps me personally. Do some relieving at Codman & Appleton which makes it more interesting and breaks up the steady routine here at Wyman

This time of year it sure is beautiful up on this hill, altho in the winter coming up at six thirty a.m. in the snow is rather tough.

Think of you often and will never forget how kind you were to me. Mrs Wilson is here altho she is thinking of leaving as her feet trouble her.

Sorry to say I still get the headaches so will have to let Mother Nature take her time about discontinuing them.

I suppose by now you have your hospital right up to snuff. Wonder if you have any more grandchildren. Think of Miss Kilburn and hope she is married as she loves to cook and keep house. Give her my regards.

I see all my family and my girls are happily married and very comfortable.

I wish you would drop in to see me in your travels. Miss Connor employed me and I think she is just the grandest person I know. It is a pleasure to work here everyone is so congenial.

Give Dr. Van Waters my regards and tell her I haven't forgotten the services in the little Chapel. I go to St James Church at Porter Square. Cambridge. Dr Daniels is a fine Minister.

Alma Bourbeau I hope is well. Remember me to all I know, Miss Hinkley, Miss Nelson, etc. If you can drop me a line here at the hospital.

I meet a girl once in a while and they are getting along fine. We all admit you people helped us to help ourselves. Suppose you will be going on your vacation and no doubt you need a rest.

I saw in the Globe editorial the other day a (crack) about the girls being sent out with only three dollars. I thought they got day work back. Heaven knows Dr. Van Waters trys hard enough.

Let me hear from you sometime.

Yours truly,

Lillian Rivers

The inside meetings are going well. It is proving to be a very eductional experience working with people. [underlined in pen] I notice if we dont have a sincere faith very often a person will find himself questioning his own beliefs.[underlined in pen] In the past few months since your first letter this word faith keeps popping up. It's like trying to suppress an air bubble at the ocean's floor.

I must close very soon the work whistle has blown so I must get about the hospital business. So for the present I hope you will please take care and I will hope to receive a letter from you soon again.

Sincerely Yours in Friendship

Paul F. Halliman. Gr/ Secy.
