And now the Council opens the bids for the construction of the Jackson Street sidewalks and the 11th Street sidewalk, thus bids for each contract having been received, as following: Jackson Streetsidewalk Bid of Laurance Cummings $675. Bid of J.P. Roberts $635. Eleventh Street - Sidewalks Bid of Laurance Cummings $330 Bid of T.P. Roberts $310 Ordered that the contract for the construction of the Jackson Street sidewalk be awarded to J.P. Roberts. Ordered that the contract for the construction of the Eleventh Street sidewalk be awarded to J.P. Roberts Ordered that the bids under ordinances No 271, 272, and 273 be referred to a committee consisting of Messers Keenan, Densmore & Clancy with instructions to examine said bids and acertain which is the lowest and report at the next meeting of the council Ordered that W.B. Thompson be and he is hereby appointed policeman in the First Ward. And now the council proceeds to examine the assessment roll under ordinance No 268, no complaints being made against said roll and the same being found correct by the council is hereby approved & accepted Ordered that a leave of absence for one week be granted to street commissioner Calligan. Ordered that the Committee on New City Engine House be instructed procure the Cottier ventilator for the new building Ordered that the plans and specifications of the City Engine House as amended be and the same as hereby approved.

COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE And now the Street Committee submit a contract between the City and T. P. Roberts for the construction of a sidewalk on Jackson Street; Thereupon said contract is approved and it is ordered that the mayor and clerk be and they are hereby instructed to execute the same on behalf of the City. Ordered that the Marshall be instructed to remove the peanut stand from the corner of Front and James Street. Ordered that E. N. Rea, contractor, be and he is hereby granted the right to land stone, on the Washington Street incline, to be used in the construction of the new City Building. A petition is received from A. A. Bell et al praying that roadway on Tenth and Stewart Streets be changed; thereupon the same is referred to the Street Committee. A petition is received from J.H. Marshall et al praying for the opening of the alley in Block 2, Maynard's plat; thereupon said petition is granted. Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until June 19th 1881, at 7:30 o'clock p.m. Attest: E S Osborne Clerk Approved L P Smith Mayor Be it remembered that on this the 19th day of June 1882, the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment of June 16th 1882; Present: His Honor, the Mayor L. Ordered that a committee consisting of Chas McDonald, Wm. A. Jennings and G. L. Manning be and is hereby appointed to take into consideration the matter of Street Grading the City of Seattle. Be it remembered that on this the 30th day of June A.D. 1882, the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber, to receive the report of the Special Committee on grades, pursuant to the call of the Mayor.

Present, His Honor, the Mayor L. P. Smith and councilmen Thos Clancy, John Collins, Wm. A. Jennings, Chas McDonald and G. L. Manning.

Thereupon the following proceedings are had: A report is received from the Special Committee on grades recommending that certain changes be made in the sheet grades as now established; said report is adopted.

And now the Ordinances Committee submit Ordinance No 286, the same being entitled, "An Ordinance establishing certain grades, in the City of Seattle, in King County, Washington Territory." After due consideration said ordinance is adopted by the following vote, towit; In favor of adoption Thomas Clancy, John Collins, Wm. A. Jennings, Chas McDonald and G. L. Manning. Against adoption none.

And now the Ordinance Committee submit Ordinance No 287, the same being entitled, "Ordinance No 287, a special ordinance to provide for the grading and improvement of Front Street from the center line of Pike Street to the center line of Lake Avenue Street, in the City of Seattle, County of King and Territory of Washington."

After due consideration said ordinance is adopted by the following vote towit; In favor of adoption Thos Clancy, John Collins, Wm. A. Jennings, Chas McDonald and G. L. Manning. Against adoption none.

And now the Ordinance Committee submit Ordinance No 288, the same being entitled, "A special ordinance to provide for the grading and improvement of a portion of Second, Third, Mill, Jefferson, James, Cherry, Columbia, Marion, Madison, Spring, Seneca, University, Union, Pike and Pine Streets, in the City of Seattle, County of King and Territory of Washington." And now the Ordinance Committee submit Ordinance No 289, the same being entitled, "A special ordinance to provide for the grading and improvement of Union Street, from a point midway between Third and Fourth Streets, to the center line of Eighth Streets, in the City of Seattle, County of King, Territory of Washington."

After due consideration said ordinance is adopted by the following vote, towit; In favor of adoption Thomas Clancy, John Collins, Wm. A. Jennings, Chas McDonald and G. L. Manning. Against adoption none.

Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned.

Be it remembered that on this the 7th day of July A.D. 1882, the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chambers pursuant to law.

Present His Honor the Mayor L. P. Smith and councilmen Thos Clancy, Wm. A. Jennings, John Keenan, Chas McDonald, and John Collins.

Thereupon the following proceedings are had. A petition is received from the Sisters of Charity praying for the vacaton of the alley in Block 18 in Boren's additions; said petition is referred to the Street Committee.

A petition is received from Portman and Padden et al praying for a crossing on Front Street to Colemans block; said petition is referred to the Street Committee.

A petition is received from Thomas Clancy et al praying for the grading of Washington Street from Commercial Street to Fifteenth Street; said petition is granted and Ordinance Committee instructed to submit an ordianance in accordance therewith.
