TO the Honorable, the City Council of the city of Seattle;-

The petition of the undersigned, respectfully represents unto your honorable body that they are citizens, property owners and tax payers of said city of Seattle; that they are owners of and interested in property located in the district or locality usually known as Beacon Hill, in said city; that said property is approached by 14th. Street, leading South from Jackson Street and that said thoroughfare of 14th. Street is the only natural and practical way of reaching said property by teams or otherwise; that in fact said route over 14th. Street is the only way that said section known as Beacon Hill can be reached from the central part of the city of Seattle, and then only in the dry season or when said street is in good repair.

Your petitioners further represent unto your honorable body that said 14th. Street, commencing at its intersection of Lane Street and continuing South for about a block and a half, is out of repair and is in fact in very bad condition, almost impassable in the dry season of the year; that your petitioners are informed and believe that said street between the points mentioned was at one time graded up to the city datum, but by reason of the continued, long, wet season of the winter of 1890-91 a large portion of the filling and garding [sic] was carried out of the street proper and down the hill to the East of said street, thereby making it almost impassable for teams at the best season of the year.

Your petitioners further represent that during the present season a large number of residences have been and are being built in the section of the city referred to and many persons and families have become and are about to become residents thereof and will be

Seattle, Washington. December 27" 1893.

TO THE HONORABLE;

The Board of Public Works. Seattle, Washington.

Gentlemen;

We, The Undersigned, residents of Beacon Hill in the City of Seattle, respectfully petition that five ( 5) Arc Lights be located at the following points on 14th Street and Fifteenth streets on Beacon Hill

One Light at the corner of 15th Street and Frederick streets. One Light at the corner of Amy Street and Fifteenth streets. One Light at the corner of Grand Street and Fourteenth streets. One Light at the corner of Atlantic Street and Fourteenth streets. One Light at the corner of Canal Street and Fourteenth streets.

At the present time there is not a City light established on the Hill. We are without police protection and owing to these conditions are liable to all the danger and annoyance that darkness and lack of protection entail. Thousands of dollars have been expended in improvements on Beacon Hill, yet up to the present time we have been unable to secure any light service whatever. We earnestly request that this petition may receive your early attention, and such action be taken by your Honorable Board as will bring this matter to the attention of the proper officials in order that the lights petitioned for may be established at an early date.

Respecfully yours, New England Northwestern Investment Co, M. N. Young, General Manager.
