KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS WAR ACTIVITIES KELLY FIELD

SOUTH SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS Kelly Field

that we will make it it does not make much difference to Herb and I anyhow as we are in a very good Squadron.

I am using some Knights of Columbus writing paper now as I ran out of the Y.M.C.A. paper the Knights of Columbus hava a nice building here just the same as the Y.M.C.A. have so that makes it fine that they have them at all the Army Camps now and what I means the Boys all like it fine as they have nice fire places [fireplaces] where you can go and stick your feet up against and get them warm if they are very cold.

I am using this kind of paper as it is cheap it does not cost us anything at all ho I should worry about expences now hu kid how is Shortie does he have much work in his shop now and is Stan still working for him and has he raised Stan wages yet you should tell Stan to ask him for a raise in wages as I think Stan should get at least four dollars a day now he knows (over)

Dear Ted, Just a line to let you know that I received your letter of Jan 17th and was glad to hear from you and all the folks.

You should have had the letter I wrote you in answer to your telegram four days after you got the telegram I sent ;you as the letter was mailed the day after I sent the telegram.

You tell Mother not to worry about me as I will not be able to write to you all as often as I did before as we will not be allowed to do so I think I have not heard anything of it yet but know that it will be that very soon.

I am sorry to hear that Mother has a sore throat and hope it will be better by the time you get this letter a lot of the Boys down here have had the mumps and sore throats I have not anything wrong with me yet thank the Lord but I guess I better tap on wood and not crow about it.

Say Ted I am putting the receipt for the insurance of Lydia's package in this letter so you can give it to her in case she does not get the package she can collect the insurance on it I also put my old watch in that package and those pins that Lydia wanted I hope that she will get it O.K.

Well Ted I did not get transferred and am just as well satisfied that I did not as I think I will get ahead in this Squadron just as quick as any other one on the first of February the number of this Squadron will be the 495th Aero Squadron instead of the 83rd Aero Squadron I think that we will leave here soon I do not know how soon it will be but hope it will be soon as I have seen all of Texas that I want to see for a while I want to see some of the Country now and am getting anctious [anxious] to see them send us to some other place Herb is beginning to feel the same way about it.

Say Ted did they ever send me a questioner or not let me know will you in your next letter as I will have to fill it out and send it back to them if they have sent it to the house send it to me will you I am also glad to hear that you are still out at Fort Mason.

I did not see Owen Appelbee down here but he must have been here at Kelly Field before he was sent to Waco, Texas as they all come here first I guess. I have not heard from Clem yet but expect to hear from him at anytime now but I guess he does not do very much writing by the looks of things.

I know that fellow Goss that you say wants our place he has a big Hay and Grain Store on Sixth St in San Francisco and what I mean he has lots of money I used to haul rock and gravel to his hay barn on Sixth St he seemed to be a fine man to talk to I only hope that you can trade the place to him as I think that is the best thing that you can do as a ranch is a good thing to have right now.

I think that a ranch is a might fine thing to have as all the ranch owners have fine machines to ride around in and also seem to have plenty of money to spend when they go to town from what I can see down here in Texas.

Remember what I told you about the folks worrying about me as I am not going to write so often you can tell them as we might be sent some place sometime soon where they will not let us write so often to you as I think that the mail is censored at the other camps from what I hear from some of the boys that have got letters from other Camps.

Well Ted I can not think of any thing else to tell you and the folks about so will close hoping that this letter finds you and all well and happy with Love and Best Wishes to you and all the folks.

From Brother Les.

P.S. How is Mrs. West tell her I was asking for her will you. From Les.
