Trustees .

Purchase agreed upon

A Report was received from Mr J. T. Bradlee in behalf of the Special Committee consisting of Messrs. Livermore and J. T. Bradlee appointed at the last Meeting on the purchase of the land West of the Cemetery, with full powers to purchase the same should they deem it expedient to do so, – stating that they had agreed to purchase the same from the Rt Revd John J. Williams, Roman Catholic Bishop of Boston, for the sum of Sixty-five hundred dollars, ($6500.00), being one thousand dollars per acre, should the title prove satisfactory.

Report accepted Appropriation of $6500 moved

Voted, – that the Report of the Committee be accepted.

Mr J. T. Bradlee then moved that the aforesaid sum of Sixty-five hundred dollars, ($6500) be appropriated for the payment for the real Estate in question.

Laid over to Next Meeting

The President announced that the above motion would lay over for consideration at the next meeting of the Trustees under Article 14 of the By=Laws.

Secy. ordd to Examine Title,

Voted, – that the Secretary be instructed to examine the title of the said real Estate, and report to the Trustees.

The regular monthly Meeting of the Trustees was held on Wednesday , at half past Three o'clock, P.M.

Present, the President and Messrs J. T. Bradlee, N. J. Bradlee Livermore and Turner.

The record of the last Meeting was read and approved.

Trustees' Report

Trustees' Report

During the past year liberal importations and purchases of flowering shrubs and plants have been made for the embellishment of the Cemetery, most of which are now in good and promising condition.

The Reception House opposite the Gate has been completed and supplied with various accommodations for the use of visitors. the Superintendent's House and appurtenances have been put in thorough repair.

Hazel Dell has been further improved by the completing of Tombs on the Northerly side, and laying out of new lots on the Southerly side of said Dell, conformably to a Plan submitted by the Superintendent and adopted by the Trustees.

A strip of land outside of Coolidge Avenue, measuring seven feet two inches in front, and thirty=one feet in the rear, containing ten thousand four hundred and twenty square feet has been sold to the City of Cambridge, at the rate of twelve and a half cents per foot, for $1302.50

It has been voted to erect a new Greenhouse at an expense not exceeding three thousand dollars, ($3000. –)

A tract of land lying West of the Cemetery, containing about six and a half acres has been purchased of Rt Rev. John J. Williams, Roman Catholic Bishop of Boston, for the sum of six thousand five hundred dollars ($6500.)

The Trustees, at a meeting , elected Col. Charles W. Folsom as Superintendent for the current year.

Voted, – that the Lot of land recently purchased by the "Proprietors of the Cemetery of Mount Auburn of Rt Revd John J. "Williams, Roman Catholic Bishop of Boston, situated on the Westerly "side of their Cemetery, be and hereby, is annexed to said Cemetery,

"Voted, – that the Committee on Grounds be instructed to "cause an iron fence, of the same design and finish as that "now bounding the Cemetery of Mount Auburn Street to be placed "on that part of the line of the Lot recently purchased of "Bishop Williams running on said Street.

"Voted, – that the subject of the laying out and occupancy "of said land be referred to the Committee on Grounds, to "consider and report."

Engine House. Proposed improvements in vicinity of _ Stone Meadow. Erec. of Carp. Shop on. Referred to Com. on Grounds

A communication was received from the Superintenddent in reference to certain proposed improvements in the vicinity of the Engine house, the erection of a carpenter's shop on the Stone Meadow, &c., accompanied with a plan

On motion of Mr. Turner, it was

Voted, – that the above communication be referred to the Committee on Grounds with full powers.

Alex McDonald's Lease of Marble Yard. Prop. cancellation of referred to Com. on Grounds _

A communication also received and read from the Superintendent respecting the premises under lease to Alex. McDonald for a marble yard, requesting that the lease of said premises might be cancelled, for reasons stated. On motion of Mr. Perkins

Voted, – that said communication be referred to the Committee on Grounds with full powers.

By Law Revision. New Committee appointed.
