at the next meeting of the Council as to the advisability of suspending operations on the Alfred street drain and proceed with the continuation of the Division street drain, along Union street to Arch street, thence along Arch street to connect with the College drain at a point near Deacon street. And that it be an instruction to the City Engineer to submit at the next meeting of the Council an estimate of the probable cost of said extension.

Ald. Gildersleeve brought up the petition of William Power respecting taxation. Referred to the Court of Revision

Ald. Clements from the Committee on Finance and accounts brought up a Report (Number 383 Book E, which was received and adopted.

The Chairman from the Committee on Streets &c brought up a Report (Number 384 Book E.) enclosing proposal of Walter C Jenkins dedicating a portion of property on continuation of Quebec street on certain conditions - which were read

On motion of Ald. Thompson seconded by Ald. Hiscock

Ordered, That the report of the Committee on Streets be received and adopted.

The Chairman from the Committee on City Property brought up a Report (Number 385 Book E.) which was read and adopted.

Ald. Gildersleeve introduced a By Law to appoint a Local Board of Health for the year 1886 which was read a first time

The 30th Rule of Council was suspended as regards the reading of this By Law and the Council went into Committee of the whole on the second reading

The Council resumed

The Committee rose, and the Chairman reported the second reading of the By Law clause by clause. The Report was received

In amendment to report

Ald. McIntyre moves seconded by Ald. O'Brien

That the name of Prof. Carr Harris be substituted for the name of W.R. McRae on the Board of Health which being put was [underline] lost [/underline]. Yeas 7. Nays 12.

The By Law was read a third time and passed

Ald Gildersleeve introduced a By Law respecting Local Improvements and Special Assessments therefor which was read a first time.

On motion of Ald. Thompson seconded by Ald. O'Brien

Ordered, That the following be a special Committee on the Water Works for 1886 The Mayor Aldermen Harty, McIntyre, Carson McKay and Bermingham have an investigation made and report to the Council upon the Condition of all the Hydrants in the City and report at the next meeting of the Council upon the late Queen street fire
