so long; but I found that all the other girls from Marlborough feel the same way; and when I talked to an old girl from Marlborough she said that she and all of her friends were that way too, but they soon got over it, so I guess that it is only natural.

I have arranged a beautiful schedule for myself. I clean my room on Friday afternoon, write my English Composition on Saturday morning before I seen anyone, and do my washing on Saturday afternoon. They have the most ingenious place here to do washing. I can't explain it to you, but I will show it to you when you come here. It is certainly interesting.

I think that you had better call the Broadway Hollywood about my blanket which has as yet not arrived. Neither have I received any of the packages that you may have sent. I did get a package, and I was all excited, but instead I was presented with a postcard with 2 cents due from Maggie and Merle. I am still laughing about that.

I wish that you would send me Bobbie's address so that I could write him.

Give my love to all, Mary

home, Bob Roantree's car was parked in front of Dick's and George's and was stalled so we had to push them. He was there with some old flame. I tried to just quietly disappear.

Last Sunday we had a big barbecue for the whole campus. It was lots of fun and they always have the best food at barbecues. I met a lot of new people too, but I don't particularly care, they were very convenient though because Bob kept trying to talk to me but couldn't get a chance. I think he was rather impressed. I hope so. Afterwards though I went to the movies they have here for the students on Sunday nights with him. The movie was [Tunga Dein?].

Everyone here is very enthusiastic about the election, so am I. I've decided now that I am definitely for Dewey. I've been having discussions with everybody about it and something Mrs. Belenky said made me very convinced. I've decided that if Roosevelt wins the election, as he probably will, we will be proving to the rest of the world that a democracy

have any team but it ought to be fun. Sally and I are going with Jim and Bob and Gertie Kupstone (the girl who came to visit Sally between quarters) with another boy. After the game we are going to a medical school dance at the A.[R.R.?] (medical fraternity to which they all belong) house in the city. Gertie's aunt has asked us all to stay the night with her in San Fransisco so we won't have to come back that night.

We've just been hearing about all the rushing and pledging at U.C.L.A. and all the girls, Ann, Charlotte, Barbara, and Shirley went in the top three. We were all sort of sorry that we couldn't be pledging something too. As far as I can see it really didn't do them much good to abolish sororities up here because the girls are awfully cliquish. It's practically impossible not to have specified groups. I still go around with the Marlborough girls and only three or four new

snail - then we had dinner at the little restaurant by the boat house. By this time I was getting quite frantic since I had a date here for the post-reg dance (after registration) at eight thirty. Bob had asked mt to go, but he hadn't asked me until solate I made him think that I already had a date because I thought he was getting much too assuming and I didn't want to go out with him so much on one week-end, as things are turning out now, I probably won't be going to in the future. Since I really didn't have a date, I thought I'd better see what I could do, but I had only two prospects - one I realized was going to ask me so I ran away - the other one was George, but he asked me for next Friday instead. So I thought that I had better give up about the date, something happened the next morning. Bob MacIntosh's ship was in port so I went with him to the dance. I don't imagine you have ever heard of him, but just ask Margie, she'll tell you. If you'd like to see a picture of him there is one in Margie's and my little wooden Kodak book. He is a very well known boy, and there are literally hundreds of girls who would

give [up their?] teeth to go out with him. You'd make as much an impression going out with him in L.A. as you would a movie star. Unfortunately he is quite nabbed by Joan Sherman, but I really don't think I'd like to cultivate him; he'd be much too much trouble to keep. It's just the impression you create going out with him and having everyone so envious of you. Of course he'd been waiting about ten minutes by the time I got home, but he was awfully nice about it and I had to keep him waiting another twenty minutes while I got ready. Of course when I came upstairs to get ready all my lights were burnt out and so the time I wasn't dressing in the hall, I was dressing in the dark. I finally got to the dance and I made my desired impression on every one. Roantree appeared with someone else, but he eyed Bob MacIntosh and I think he looked a little worried, which was of course exactly what I wanted him to do. george was also very surprised to see me with him (he knows him) and all the girls wanted
