77 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE And now the Council proceeds to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Moses Keezer,member for the 3rd ward and G L Manning is elected to fill said vacancy; and is also placed on the Street Committee Fire Committee and Cemetary Committee to fill the vacancies in said Committees caused by the resignation of said Moses Keezer. And now the Ordinance Committee submit Ordinance No 280, the same being entitiled as follows, to wit: "A Special Ordinance to provide for the construction of a sidewalk as follows, to wit: Commencing on Stewart Street at the Alley which runs through Block thirty five (35) thence along the north side of said Stewart Street to the West Side of Tenth Street, thence along the West side of siad Tenth Street to the North side Virginia Street to Eleventh Street in the City of Seattle, County of King and Territory of Washington" After due consideration said ordinance is adopted by the following vote viz: In favor of adoption, Thos Clancy, John Collins, M Densmore, W A Jennings, John Keenan and Chas McDonald. Against adoption none. And now the Ordinance Committee submits ORdinance No 281, the same being entitled as follows, to wit: " A special ordinance to provide for the construction of a sidewalk as follows, to wit: Commencing at the Center line of Eighth Street, thence along the north side of Pine Street to the west side of said of Ninth Street, thence along the west side of said Ninthe Street to the center line of Stewart Street in the City of Seattle, County of King, and territory of Washington" After due consideration said ordinance is adopted by the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Thos Clancy, John Collins, M Densmore, Wm A Jennings John Keenan and Chas McDonald. Against adoption None.

81 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Moses Keezer having been a member of the Engine House Committee and having ceased to be a member of the council the vaancy in said committee as caused is filled by the appointment of Charles McDonald Ordered the Council stand adjourned until Friday June 9th 1882 at 7&1/2 o'clock pm Attest: E S Osborne clerk Approved L P Smith Mayor Be it remembered that on the 9thday of june 1882 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its council chamber pursuant to adjournment of June 2nd 1882 Present His Honor the Mayor L P Smith and Councilman John Collins, M Densmore, Wm A Jennings Chas McDonald and G L Manning Thereupon the following proceedings are had A remonstrance is received from A Spaulding and others against the construction of the sidewalk on Eleventh Street and the same is referred to the Street Committee A petition is received from August Mehlhorn praying for the right to lay water pipe along certain Steeets in the City of Seattle. The petition is granted And now come the persons hereinafter named and make application for the licenses hereinafter named from the dates and for the periods hereinafter specified and at the same time said applicants file their several bonds in accordance with the ordinance relative thereto After due examination said bonds are approved and the said applicants making due proof that they are men of good moral character it is therefore ordered that upon their compliance

94 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE July 7/82 the Council proceeds to open the bids for the clearing of the cemetary; the following bids had been received, viz. From B F Day for $180 per acre, J H Hener & J M Hoffman $600 for 2 acres, B F Lillie for $149 per acre, Patrick Forest $174 per scre Walter Frener for $165 per acre. The bid of B F Lillie being the lowest it is ordered that the contract be awarded to him at $149 per acre. Ordered that a warrant for $3250.00 be drawn on the Fire Fund in favor of John Collins, the proceeds to be used for the purchase of a new Gould Fire Engine. And now in pursuance of notice duly published the Council proceeds to the equalization fo the Special Assessment rolls under Ordinances Nos 284,281, and 276. No complaints being made against either of said special assessments it is ordered that they be and thay are hereby accepted and approved. The Ordinance Committee on instructed to submit Ordinance levying taxes in accordance with the provisions of Ordinances No 284 and 281. 95 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE. July 14/82 and is hereby withdrawn from said John Baker. The Street committee to whom was referred the bids on Stewart, Tenth and Virginia streets submit their report thereon recommending that said bids be rejected. Ordered that all the bids received for the construction of said sidewalks be and they are hereby rejected. The Street committee report on the petition of Portman, Padden & Co et al, whereupon said petition is granted, and the construction of a street crossing in accordance with the prayer thereof ordered. And now comes Geo. W Walsh and makes application for a grocery license for a period of three months beginning July 16th and at the same time said applicant files his bond in accordance with the ordinance relative thereto. After due examination said bond is approved and the said applicant making due proof that he is a man of good moral character it is therefore ordered that theclerk be and he is hereby instructed to issue a grocery license to said applicant for said period of three months. And now the ordinance committee submit Ordinance No 290,the same being entitled-"An Ordinance to License Tax and Regulate Threatics, Shows, and other Exhibitions and PublicAmusements" After dueconsiderationsaid ordinance is adopted by the following ovet, towit: In favor of adoption, Thos Clancy, M Densmore, Wm A Jennings, G L Manning, Chas McDonald and John Keenan; Against adoption, none. And now the Ordinance committee submit Ordinance No291 the same being entitled - "An Ordinance to provide for the procuring of an additional Steam Fire Engine" After due consideration said Ordinance is adopted bythe folowing vote to wit: In favor of adoption Thos Clancy, M Densmore, Wm A Jennings, G L Manning, Chas McDonald and John Keenan. Against adoption, none. And now the Ordinance Committee submit Ordinance No 292 the same being entitles. "A special ordinance toprovide for the grading and improvement of Washington Street from the East Line of Commercial Street to the center line of Fifteenth Street in the City
