227 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Office of the Mayor of the City of Seattle March 19, 1883 A meeting of the Council is hereby called to convene on Wednesday March 21, 1883 at 7&1/2 o'clock pm at the Council Chamber for the transaction of any business that may be brought before it. John Collins acting Mayor Mar 21/83 Be it remembered that on this the 21st day of March 1883 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to the call of His Honor the Acting Mayor Councilman John Collins for the transaction of general business. The following Officers are present to wit: His Honor the Acting Mayor Councilman John Collins and Councilmen Charles F Clancy, Fred Gasch, Charles McDonald, G L Manning and U M Rasin. Thereupon the following proceedings are had: Petitions Received From L Runig for the right to lay a water pipe from Fifth Streeet Corner of Madison along fifth Street to Marion Street thence West along Marion Street to the Southeast corner of Front and Marion Streets Granted. From Sarah D Libby for the raising of sidewalk corner Union and Second Streets. Laid on the table From D Horton for the lowering of sidewalk in Seneca Street. Granted upon the condition that petitioner lower the same at his own expense to the top of his Stone Wall. Committees Reports Received From Streets and Street Improvements recommending certain grading on Mill Street Recommitted From Streets and Street Improvements rejecting the petition of Mary M Miller in relation to Washinton Street sidewalk

248 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Apr 23/83 Ordered that Thomas Clancy be & he is hereby authorized to construct a sidewalk on the South side of Washington Street from South 3rd to South 4th Street Ordinances Received The Judiciary and Legislative Committee submit an Ordinance entitled "To provide for grading a portion of Pike Street and for constructing a sidewalk in said Street" After due consideration said ordinance is adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Collins, Cosper, Clancy, Gasch, McDonald & Rasin. Against adoption none. The City Attorney submits an Ordinance to provide funds to pay for grading & improvement on 2d, 3rd, & Intersecting Streets. Laid over until next meeting. And now the surveyor submits the Plans & Specification for the Iprovement s of Seneca Street under Ordinance No 401; thereupon after due examination the same are approved. And now the Surveyor submits the Plans & Specifications for the Improvements of Cherry, 4th and 8th Streets under Ordinance No 395. Laid on the table. Ordinances Rec'd The attorney submits an Ordinance entitled "An Ordinance establishing certain grades in the City of Seattle"; Thereupon after due consideration the same is adopted upon the following vote, to wit: In favor of adoption Cosper, Gasch, McDonald & Rasin.
