1858 Oct. 26th finished sewing wheat in Lot at Cedar Hill this day & went to Plowing at fresh ground shingling House Mr Wyatt & Henry - Mr Chumbley at aspen Grove & Jordan halling wood at work on corn shelling Room at Corn House finished sewing wheat in fresh ground at Cedar Hill

27th Finished sewing fresh ground at Cedar Hill shingling House Mr Chumbley at work at Plantation on Carriage house & covering negroes house Finishing shingling one side of house Jordan Halled wood at home & Halled wood for Mr Neale-

28. Chumbley & Jordan at home balance up at Cedar Hill sewing wheat & covering House finishing corn shelling Room – – – – – cloudy & like for Rain, Rained a little last night - put my hogs at Stoney pint at this time - Rained a little off & on nearly allday Just began to Shingle front side of House at Cedar Hill, Mr Wyatt left yesterday evening. We finished plowed up Land for wheat but did not Sew it. we shelled Corn & fix stable in evening -

29th Began to Strip ^^Tobacco in new prize Barn to day all Come home from Cedar Hill, to day & last evening - still Raining

30th Went to appraise Mrs Stone Estate, Mr Chumbly Jordan & Lowry halled up Logs for overseers house at Cedar Hill gathered Succors here Skimed stable Logs etc gathered Cotton

31st Stayed at home all day little sick

Novr 1st Digging Sweet Potatoes this day & yams Sent Henry & jerry Smith to Cedar Hill Shingling House Sent to Buck to Mill5 Bags 9 Bushels Corn for meal - clear this morning

1858 Novr 2nd All at Cedar Hill Wyatt sick Henry & chumbly finished shingling this day & 3rd wound up House, covered negroes Houses Daubed Two & Chimneys etc Henry Pressed out Cider Balance Cutting wood, Halled wood & same

4th fixing up there finished sewing wheat ^nearly 15 Bushels sewed

5. Began to move Halled 4 Loads Nannie Went up in morning & stayed at home Rained a little nearly all day moved Lila ^wentup this morning, - carried up all safe but some chickens got smothered - & expect to try & finished tomorrow Friday Saturday 6th the 6 If it does not Rain —

6 Finished Saturday moving -

7th Nannie went to Edgehill to meeting in evening I went down to aspen Grove

8- Put up Our Fatting Hogs at Aspen Grove & Put up shoats to alter -

8 Halling up Corn at Cedar Hill Jordan brot up Sweet Potatoes Bacon Pig & Sundry other thing etc

9 Halling up Corn waggon & Cart

10th Finished Halling up Corn here & Halled 1 Load wood Henry Carrd 2 Logs to worsham mill & ½ Bbl corn for meal & got 1 Turn which was there Shucked a little corn Mr Lewisaltered my shoats Buck & Robt & Kitty had Blankets at aspen Groveat Aspen Grove 26 - Turned out 1 Boar & claiborne Rhoda & Lila had Blankets here Cedar Hill1 Sow more making 2 young Boars & 2 young sows & 4 old ones,-

11th Began to shuck Corn in morning & began to Rain & stoped us, shelled Corn Cleaned out nubbin House etc etc overseer cut out shoes for negroes etc Jerry went down home in evening- & Chumbly [lost?]

1858 Friday 12th cleared & we shucked our Corn here I went to Mrs Pannells & to aspen Grove, finished shucking about Dinner

13th Raining & snowing nearly all day

14th I went to meeting strait stone, tolerable good day -

15th I went to Court about Dividing Mrs Hunts negroes etc Balance Housing Corn here got done the good corn made 44 Barrels in all good & 7 Barrels nubbins.

16th Finishing Housing nubbins this morning. Henry Halled some dry wood & Leaves & then he goes down home Jordan went down with Cart last evening - & overseer,- Sent Jerry Smith to shop to get Robin Shod & date Hinge mended - Snowed again last night about oneInch Deep this morning had 2 snows to this day

17th Federick shoemaking here, Balance getting up corn at aspen Grove, put up balance of Hogs down there, took up Horses calves & colts to feed, - -

18th Fed, shoemaking balance getting up corn at aspen Grove, I went to Sale tho quite Poorly, pretty day - negroes sold very high,

19th Fed, finishing shoemaking balance down at aspen Grove getting up Corn got up all next to Orchard & began South side of Camp Branch, I took Fanney here at this time —medicine at this time,

20th Nannie went down to aspen Grove they are getting up Corn down there, Fed finished shoemaking & they have got them, cloudy & like for Falling, weather this evening

21st Sunday Snowed & Hailed last night being 3 we have had to this day cleared off about 9 Oclock, pretty day overhead Snow & hail melting off smartly,-

1858 Novr 22 Raining this morning all doing nothing scarcely, Fed making Bro. Hunt a pair of shoes to day - quite rainCold

29. The last week it has been rain[in]g & we finished gathering Corn at aspen Grove & finished Housing last Saturday Just about night, Mr James P. Lewis helped us shuck corn with 5 hands 1 day, no other person put away our Greens covered them & Turnip Patch about this time putting away Greens here this morning put up Fattening hogs here this morning, Henry fixing Carriage House & putting away Greens now Rained nearly all yesterday cleared off very pretty this morning —

30th Fixing for Killing Hogs at aspen Grove Raking leaves, took down part of new Barn Tobacco on mountain,

Decr 1st Killed Hogs & brot them up here Cutting out & Salted up near 2000 lbs Pork Chumbley Fed & Buck cutting wood to burn Plant Bed at aspen Grove for us.

2nd Jerry gone to Mr Cothrans to see him about moving him to aspen Grove we are halling Logs here & fixing to Raise overseers House, Covering Greens etc this morning drying fat etc tolerable good weather to day, Cool

3rd Raised overseers House & Kitchen Bro Hunt & Kelley help us, did not quite get done cloudy in morning cleared off

4th Finished Houses this morning Sent to mill & got the Turn of meal there Jordan claiborne & alse put up chimmy to negroe House fixed clems Fed & Buck cutting wood for Plant Bed at aspen Grove one sheep Dead there, one young Lamb there —

5th Decr 1858. All went to aspen Grove except Henry & family,- tolerable day —

6th Raining & striping Tobacco -

7th Raining & striping Tobacco here went to Aspen Grove 6th shelling corn fanning out nearly all day fixed Grind stone

8th Still cloudy & like for Rain,

9. cleared off in evening Striping Tobacco

10. Started after Mr Cothran Chumbly at work on his House up here Fed & alse cutting wood for Plant Bed moved sheep to mountain, etc etc

18th Cothran Came last night & he takes place of Chumbly at aspen Grove Henry went to Mill got little waggon at home & meal & 1 Turn flour for Negroes at Christmas brot Load up to Cedar Hill yesterday - from Aspen Grove - Cold clear day — This morning & yesterday getting slab Timber, Henry going to Faris Mill- to day get flour Horses shod get plank etc etc etc etc - clear day — got Flour & Plank at Fariss did not get Horses shod - had Mrs Hunt 1 Bushel wheat made into flour. got some Plank —

12 went to meeting — S. Stone

13 Raining this morning, Chumbly Sandy & Jordan Came up Henry halled 2 Loads wood, - rain Stoped him, striping Tobacco till evening worked a little on overseers Houses, Still cloudy —

14th Henry Halling up Slab Timber & wood Chumbly Jordan & Sandy at work on overseer House, Covered 1 Side & Scalped Kitchen
