22nd cutting Tobacco at second years ground & new ground to day yesterday cut Granary lot

26 Finished cutting over Once & stacking Tops & got up 2 Loads corn in all Lila taken sick yesterday Evening & this morning 26th her child Born 10 A.M.Oclock

27 Went to Mr McCullock several sick

28 Halling up Tobacco nearly filled prized Barn & new ground barn

29. succoring Tobacco etc Cut Lot by Houseprize

30. firing Tobacco etc

Oct. 1 Put up Hogs to Fatten

Oct. 2 Halling up Corn & finished right side^ PulCornpulling Shucking out corn to day -

1850 Jany 4th & 5th cutting big growth in new ground went to Mrs Coleman Grastys & McCullocks cold weather - 6th. cloudy & like for snow

7th cloudy & Raining this morning. striping Tobacco in middle barn to day -

12th Striped Tobaccofrom 7th to 12th cutt etc———in prize Barn &

12th Cutting Big growth Henry gone to mill Card 1 Large Log for flooring Plank 5 Bus corn

13th cloudy & like for snow, cold

14. Snowed last night very bad night snow about 2 Inches Deep still cloudy Striping Tobacco in prize barn

15. Finished striping prize Barn this morning my wife & F W. gone to Mrs Hunts clear & cool to day — snow not melted much

16 cutting Big growth in new ground began to Rain in evening

17. striping Tobacco in new Barn

18. striping in Do Do took all the lugs down in middle barn, cloudy & raining littlea

19 Halled leaves & straw & shucks

20. Rained in evening & I stayed all night at Bro Stonestarted to Court

21 Rained all night & till nearly 11 Oclock went to Court House & got home that night Finished striping in mountain field barn & then striped in new barn at home.

22nd cutting in new ground, Henry gone to mill 1 Bbl corn & 2 Logs - for Hhd Staves

1851 July 18th Hilling up new ground Tobacco Plowing Lots Tobacco - Dry & Hot

19th Plowing & Hilling up Lots of Tobacco, still Dry & nights Hot went to Mrs McC 18th & to see Hester. Sent Fed to mill 2 Turns of corn for me 1 for overseer & also 3 Bushels wheat for overseer

20 21 & 22nd Clear & dry & nights a little cool

21st 22nd Plowing & Hilling up fresh ground on mountain Sent new waggon to shop again & Mrs Colmans Iron Going to day to Mrs McC. to grastys & Rice & in the route see about machine at Yates

23rd Thrashing wheat & finished this day - Joel Hubbard machine — fair & Dry — fixing to Thrash at Mrs McCullocks, Keatts machine

24th going to carry the machine to Crew Miller this morning Fed sick yesterday & done the wheatnothing in choping in corn - finished Hilling up Tobacco [on?]

28th Halling Rock to build chimny to Henrys House still cloudy & like for Rain, wind Blew hard yesterday Sunday — Malissas child a Girl was Born Thursday morning before day Break say Juste after midnight, on the 24th July 1851.

29th went to Colo Smiths Plantation & to Mrs McCullock a little shower rain after I got home & in the night it rained again Smartly, my the tooth achwife got

30 Cloudy & like for more rain, We are Replanting our 2 Lots & fresh ground to day - plants from Capt Fitzgerald quarter

31st Replanting in second yrs ground nearly done will get done soon this morning A Fine Rain last night, & still cloudy J D owen went to Colo Dickinsons to get an overseer place this day

augt 2nd now gone to Mr Watson Wamacks on same business

— 11 now gone to Wm Tuckers I don’t Know what for

1851 Oct. 13th Sent Henry to Colo Smiths plantation to Exchange 6 Bushels wheat to sew, in fresh ground Tobacco Land on mountain, We are this evening Hanging last Cutting there & Plowing up Tobacco Hills to begin to sew tomorrow Clear this evening & windy this morning was very like for Rain, still warm —

15th Finished mountain field fresh ground Tobacco Land Digging Irish Potatoes

16th day of the month, sent to Mr Grastys to Raisebarn Clear & moderate weather

18. Finished Housing Tobacco, Dug our Sweet & Irish Potatoes yesterday & day before also sent 2 Hands to majr Grastys to Raise Barn Killed a little Beef this morning — cutting down Corn going to sew wheat If it does not Rain Henry Halling wood & Land

19 A Fine Rain Rain last evening & night fine weather, - Sold Jane yesterday morning to Mrs Mary Moseley of Charlotte for $600 fine weather about this time

20. Plowing Lotts for wheat cutting Corn cleaning Out stables firing Tobacco Halling leaves etc

21 & 22 Sewed 2 Tobacco Lotts in wheat one at prize barn & one by new Barn, sewing in fresh field to day 22nd firing Tobacco in 2 Barns Sewed about 24 Bushels at Mrs McCullocks to this day – – no rain, cleared of

30 went to CH as school Com. Aff[airs] Rain this day not quite done seeding wheat - cleared off stayed all night Mrs McC

31 Finished seeding wheat in fresh field Sewed now between 25 & 30 Bus. weather still moderate & arm Bot at Robt McCullocks Sale 1 Calf $1 & 1 chest 25¢ — Seeding rye at old Mrs McCullocks Jeremiah Pallison Fitzgerald son of F.WF. Born 20 Oct 1851 Turn backward as thats Blank

1852 July 2nd The weather is warm & like for Rain we have taken down our fine Tobacco & on Hhd besides & expect to prize them tomorrow

3rd prizing Tobacco good in small Hhd & Big - send 4 Bushel corn nearly 3 Bus. wheat from Mrs Hunts & 3 Bushels Rye we thrashed to Cpt Gilberts mill this day - Plowing next to orchard laid by fresh ground towards stony pint yesterday weeding down Tobacco etc Plowing sweet Potatoes after 12 Oclock 4th In the night Mrs smith Died having been sick about 5 or 6 weeks - clear day Plowing & Laying by Corn – weeding Tobacco up Sweet PotaotesHilled

5. went to Rice before day about mrs smiths coffin got up Rye & some wheat put out Tobacco Plowing Corn, & began to cut Oats this day

6. Cutting Oats mrs smith Buried - clear day

7th Cutting Oats this day - weeding down new ground Tobacco clear fine day & getting quite dry & very Hot Finished Cutting Oats this day & Halled up Tobacco Out of new Barn, to prize Barn & suning it

8th Trod Out 1 floor wheat, suning balance our Tobacco Lila etc plowing Henry & balance assorting & prizing good & fine Tobacco, clear & fine day so far, very warm

13 Plowing nearly done laying by corn –

14th Fine shower Rain last evening weather Replanted Tobacco this morning

15. Last Evening Major & Mrs Grasty & Mrs Wooding to come here tomorrowPowerfull Rain & wind & some hail, wind Blew down great deal of our fencing not quite done prizing our good Tobacco etc, This morning cutting Trees out of Road putting up fencing etc. — —

17th Rained all night last night, fine growing about this time weather Finished yesterday Plowing fresh ground Tobacco & Finished prizing our Tobacco not quite done - halling Our wheat up oats out instacks

19th Fine Rains about this time we are Hilling up fresh ground. Tobacco plowing ps corn below House
