Seattle, Wash., September 19th, 1893
To the Hon. Mayor and Common Council of the City of Seattle.
Gentlemen: -
The undersigned, residents in the vicinity of Kilbourne Ave., Vermont, Harrison and Jay Streets, hereby petition your Honorable Body to change the location of the electric arc light ordered to be placed at the intersection of Kilbourne Ave. and Jay St. to the corner of Kilbourne Ave. and Vermont St., for the reason that no one lives on Jay St. while Vermont St. has residents on both sides of the street its full length. If said arc light was placed on the top of a pole it would be ten or twelve feet higher than if suspended across the intersection of the streets and would thus light a larger territory.
And your petitioners will ever humbly pray.

To The Honorable Board of Public Works
AND
CITY COUNCIL of the city of Seattle, Washington.
Gentlemen: --
We the undersigned citizens of Fremont, and the newly annexed territory to your city, would respectfully represent to your honorable bodies that we are sadly in need of lights for our streets and railroad-crossings: that the Houre of Delegates has promised us four (4) arc lights, and the Board of Aldermen has agreed to give us seven (7) arc lights, but as the matter stands we are not assured of getting any lights at all.
Wherefore: we most humbly petition that you take definite action at your very earliest convenience, and supply us with the number of arc lights you see fit, but that they be put up at once if possible.
