674 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Aug 12 1885 Be it remembered that on this the 12th day of August 1885 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law. The following officers are preent to wit: His Honor the Mayor H L Yesler and Councilmen Keenen,Young,Calligan, Hall, Furth & Lake thereupon the following proceedings were had, to wit: Petitions received Petition of James Pallock for a sewer from North side of Main St to South side of Jackson St referred to comittee on sewers. Petition of A S Miller for street crossing corner 3rd & Marion Sts. Referred to Committee on Streets and Improvements. Remonstrances. The remonstrance of A Burgus et al against the issuance of a Retail Liquor License to Richard Pritcherd of the Lake View House at East end of Jackson St was received read and ordered filed, and the application and bond of said Richard Pritchard ordered laid over by a unanimous vote. Communications A communication from the Board of Fie Delegates asking for additional fire apparatus received. Referred to committee on Fire & Water. Reports Report of the City Justice approved and ordered filed. Report of Street Commissioner Manning approved & ordered filed Application of Charles Ross for License referred Licenses ordered Issued Ordered that Licenses be issues as follows to wit: Thomas Anderson Retail Malt Liquors for 3 months from Aug 8 1885 Peter Buerman Retail Intoxicating Liquors for 3 months from Aug 1st 1885 E H Huntley Retail Intoxicating Liquors for 3 months from Aug 11 1885 Fred Homan Retail Intoxicating Liquors for 3 months from Aug 15 1885 S Baxter Wholesale Intoxicating Liquors for 6 months from Aug 10 1885 Wm Waugh Retail Malt Liquors for 3 months from Aug 16 1885

Where the following proceedings are had to wit: Petitions Petition of H Schodicet al to open Leonora Street from Seventh St to 12th St Referred to Com on Streets Petition of A MacKintosh et al for Street Lamp Corner of Third and University Streets Referred to Committee on Gas Lights. Petition of J A Hatfield et al praying for two additional street lights on Gislers Wharf. Referred to Com on Gas Lights Petition of J M Frink et al to change the planking ordered laid on South Second St and Jackson St from 16 ft in width to 24 ft in width and place the same in the middle of the St. Rec'd & read & on motion laid on the table. Petition of R McGilvery for permission to establish a white Laundry on North side of Washington Street between 2nd & 3rd streets. Granted upon condition that the premises be fitted up under the directionof the Chief of the Fire Dept. Petition of Wm Cochrane et al praying the Council to so amend the license ordinances as to prohibit the peddling of vegetables by any person other that American Citizens; Also that an ordinance be passed prohibiting any person from maintaining a laundry without a

To build this section I should require: 75 Iron brackets at a cost of about $1.40 each. 90 Glasses @ 4 cents each 300 lag bolts 3&1/2 inches long and a few incidentals used in putting in boxes There are other locations in the City that I think should be protected also and I would therefore respy suggest that 10 additional fire alarm boxed be purchased to be put in during the year. 773 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Apr 2 1886 Be it remembered that on this the second day of April 1886 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law the following officers being present to wit: Mayor H L Yesler Councilmen R H Calligan, J Furth, G W Hall, T W Lake, Chas McDonald, J J Post and G W Young thereupon the following proceedings are had. The record of the proceedings of the previous meeting are read and approved. Petition Communication etc received; For E J Ross et al for the abatement referred to committee on Health and Police From Fred Blenkins, for permission to conduct a public laundry, on motion the petition is granted From L V Schnyder, for permission to conduct a public laundry on motion the petition is granted. From Schwabacher Bros & Co for the payment from some general fund of Warrant #146 on Jackson St sidewalk fund ordinance #335, referred to finance committee From C C Otis et al for establishment of grade and estimate of cost of improving 4th Street from Battery to Virginia on motion the petition is laid on the table From Toklas and Singerman for permission to erect a wooden shed in the rear of the San Francisco Store, on motion the petition is granted

782 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Apr 16 1886 W B Jackling, he had suspended said Jackling from the police force by that the charges had not been sustained and recommending that he be reinstated On motion W B Jackling is reinstated as Captain of Police From City Clerk of Jackson St Extension fund ord #396 referred to Finance Committee From Committee on Health and Police on petition of E J Ross for abatement of nuisance on Block 12 Denny's Addition, that they found no nuisance and recommending that the petition not be granted on motion the reported is adopted from Sewer Committee on report of Health officer in matter of Drainage of Mercer St, recommending that a drain be put in on motion the report is adopted From Sewer Committee in petition of H G Struve et al recommending that a woodern sewer be put in Second St from the north side of Stewart Street to connect with sewer in Pike Street, on motion the report is adopted From City Attorney in matter of drainage of pond at Corner of Main & S 4th Sts recommending that council consider the question of lowering the culvert across Main St at S 4th St On motion the Street Commissioner is directed to lower said culvert so as to drain the pond.
