Seattle, W T , Oct 2nd 1885 To the Hon Mayor and Common Council Gentlemen Your Committee to whom was referred street Planking of Cherry, James, Jackson, Washington and Main Streets beg leave to Report as Follows, that you Plank Cherry Street from the East side of Front Street to the West side of Third Street and same Street from the East side of Front St to the West side of Second Street and Jackson St from the End of Bridge to East side of Sixth St all to be planked Twenty Four feet wide. Washington and Main St to be planked as follows the South side of Washington from the west side of Commercial St the planking east of the alley Sixteen feet in width the north side of Main From the west side of Commercial St the planking east of alley sixteen feet wide and that the work be done immediatly before the winter rains set in. 688 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Sep 18 1885 From Committee on Fire and Water recommending that Mme Lachenal be granted permission to conduct a Laundry at the foot of Commercial St Report adopted From Committee on Fire & Waater recommending First: That 7 fire plugs be put in at Belltown at points to be selected by the Chiefof the fire Department and the Committee on Fire and Water. Second: that after that portion of the City is supplied with water one of the new Hose carts with apparatus be turned over to the Engine Co No 4 Third: That the purchase of a New Fire Engine for Engine Co. No 4 and also the Truck for Seattle No 1 should be deferred for the present. Fourth: That the Engine house of Engine Co No 3 be made comfortable by battening the sides, ceiling and lining the inside and the purchase of a stove; and suitable lamps be supplied them Fifth: that the establishing of a Telephone system for our fire department is not necessary at present as our City is not large, enough to require such a system nor our finances in such a condition as to justify such expense. Sixth: That we have contacted the Chief Engineer regarding Engine No 1 and requested him to examine same and report to your Hon Body. Report Adopted. 702 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Nov 6 1885 Commercial St and Third St Referred to Com on Streets Petition of Carmi Dibble et al to more definitely mark the Southern boundry of the City Limits. Granted and City Surveyor directed to more definitely mark said boundry Petitionof Ed Clark et al for removal of shed from foot of Main St at end of street railway and praying that the Street Railway Co be required to plank and repair their track in compliance with the terms of the ordinance. Granted and Street Commissioner ordered to require the said repairs and planking to be done. Remonstrance of J W VanBrocklin et al against the construction of elevated sidewalk on Mill St between 4th & 5th Sts. was read and on motion the Street Comittee requested to examine into and report uopn the matter of the Mill Street sidewalk at the next regular meeting. Referred to Committee on Streets Petition on Western Mill Co et al for the apointment of an appraisor on the part of the City ot appraise damages to property condemned by Ordinance No 660 along the line of Rollin Street etension. Read and motion laid on the table. Plat of Fairview Homestead Association presented for approval by F E Sander Referred to City Surveyor. Reports Received From Judiciary Committee recommending the adoption of the Ordinance heretofore submitted entitled "An Ordinance granting the right to erect poles and stretch wires thereon for Electric purposes" provided that the parties presenting the same pay for publication of Ordinance. Adopted From same Committee approving reports of City Justice Hill Justice of the Peace Geo G Lyon and the City Jailor for month of October. Adopted and said reports ordered rec'd and filed. From the Finance Committee recommending that the sum of $13.50 be referred to P Fitzgerald on account ot erroneus valuation and taxation of Block 3 in Mercers Addition for the year 1884. Report adopted and the Clerk authorized to draw a warrant on the City fund in favor of said P Fitzgerald for said sum of $13.50 From Street committee recommending that the petition of Melody Choir et al for opening Will & Filbert Streets be granted. adopted
