44 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Jul 14 1886 An Ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An ordinance to provide for the construction of a plank road in and along Eighth Street in the City of Seattle, commencing fifty feet south of the north line of Block 8 of Terry's Fifth Addition to the City of Seattle and extending to a point near Hinds Street in South Seattle; and authorizing the mayor and clerk to execute a contract with A W Burrell for the construction of said plank road; which after due deliberation is passed by the following vote, viz: In favor of said ordinance R H Calligan, J Furth, W A Harrington, T W Lake, Chas McDonald andG W Young; against none. Committee Reports Received From Street Com on petition of Geo Newell recommending that the alley in Block 7 J J Moss' addition be vacated. Adopted From Same Committee recommending that petition of G M Hall et al for opening Broadway from James St to Mill St be granted. Adopted From Same Committee recommending that the petition of William Hammond et al for the opening of Temperance St from its intersection with Depot Street to its intersection with Harrison St be granted. Adopted From Com on Fire and Water stating that they have ordered the construction of a file alarm Telephone system. adopted Ordered that the council do now adjourn. 619 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Sep 28 1888 Virginia Street Tax Levy Ordered that a tax of One hundred and fifty one (151) Mills on each and every dollar of the assessed valuation of all propertyincluded within the assessment district created by Ord No 938 be and the same hereby is lveied on said property for the purpose of paying for the improvement of Virginia Street from West Street to Fourth Street in the City of Seattle. The Clerk submits an ordinance entitled "An ordinance to pay audited bills" which is passed by the following vote: Burns, Durie, Green , Jones, McCoombs McDonald and Reitze Against same none. Ordered that the Councildonow adjourn Approved Robert H Moran mayor Attest C W Ferris dep clerk Oct 5 1888 Be it remembered that on the 5th day of October A D 1888 The Common Council of the City of Seattle met in their Council Chamber in the City Hall pursuant to law. Present His Hon the Mayor Robert Moran Councilmen F J Burns, D E Durie, Jos Green, T E Jones, Jas McCoombs and C F Reitze and Clerk W R Forrest Petitions etc. Petition of Harry Daniels & others for street lights on Birch Street from Depot to Harrison St. Read and granted same to be 16 cp on wooden posts. Petition of A E Knight for permission to use a portion of Front Street for building material for a period of 90 days Read and Granted. Petition of O S Jones et al for a street light at the corner

634 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Oct 15 1888 that he would require $1250 and expenses for a visit to Seattle Ordered that the Clerk telegraph Mr Waring and ascertain of $1250 include all fees, if so, instruct him to come. Committee reports From park Commissioners on the petitiono of the "Arbor Assn" recommending that the City employ the gardner who sets out the trees to box and protect them. Referred to Street Committee. From Special committee in matter of Main Street Ferry slip as follows "We have carefully examined into the matter and find that the granting the use of the foot of Main Street for a ferry slip a very serious mistake. We think that there is no other street in the City where ferry slip would be so great a inconvenience to shipping. but do not reccommend the report of the ordinance because we question the right of the City to do so" adopted. From Com on Street Lights on the petition of Allen Crook et al street lights on Box St Depot to Harrison St recommending that the same be granted provide the lights be 16 cp on wooden post. Adopted. Ordered that the suit began against Mr Thos Clancey for violation of the Fire Limit ordinance be dismissed, provided he makes no further improvements under the building except those strictly necessary for raising building to grade. The City Atty submits an ordinance entitled "An ordinance to transfer the sum of $10,000 from the City to Road fund" Whichis passed by the following vote In favor of F J Burns, D E Durie, Jos Green, T E Jones, Jas McCoombs, C F Reitze against none. N E Holmes addition to the City of Seattle is approved.

Be it remembered that on this the 22nd day of October A.D. 1890. The Board of Aldermen of the City of Seattle meets pursuant to adjournment and after recess in the New City Hall in the Butler Block.

The following members are present.

Prest Geo W. Hall in the Chair.

At roll call the following members answered to their names

Bogardus, Holbrook, Korn, Miller, Pontius Snyder, Wald, Wilcox and Mr. President.

The following proceedings are had: Journal of previous meeting and approved.

Petitions

Petitions for retail liquor licenses were read from the following named persons Korthern and Weberputz. J. Conrad Devet and Salvey, Clancey & Burns Sothe and Drumm Noel Bengley Fortlomi & Levy Fred Beuse Pearson and Brand Pinkham & Coyle L. Chopard Gumbert & Leibman. Said petitions were read and ref to Com on L & R.

Petition of H. Lapworth for an outlet to his property lot 3 & 4 blk 41 10th & Stewart St. Read and ref to Street Com.

Petition of J. B. Denney for Sewer Harrison St from Oak to the Bay. Read and ref to Com on Sewers and Drains.

Petition from G. C. Phinney - that the present Janitor of the Butler Blk be appointed Janitor of the New City Offices. Read and ref to the Spec Com on Janitor.
