Seattle Wash June 10 1889 To the Honorable Mayor & Council of Seattle Washington Gentlemen the alley west of Front St and running south to Marion St from Union St is impasible for teams between University St and Marion St because of debris and portions of plankway being hung The local Steamers and ocean Steamers land between University St and Union St and wharves immediatly north of Union St. All passengers and trucks with goods have to climb a steep grade at foot od Union St to get on Front St trucks canonly haul very small loads, the hill being at an angle of about 45[degrees] Your petitioners pray that the alley be immediately repaired from University St to Madison or Marion to accomodate the immense [amount of business] for which this alley is required.
