To the Mayor and City Council of the City of Seattle Greeting: Whereas there is now being printed and circulated in this city an certain paper known and designated as the Sunday Breeze Mercury, and also a certain other paper known and designated as the Sunday Sun: and Whereas, these papers do smirch the character of our citizens and corrupt the moral of our youth; and Whereas certain of our sister cities, deeming such publications unfit to be read by their citizens, have prohibited their circulation within the corporate limits of such cities; Therefore, we, the undrsigned, most respectfully petition your Honorable Sir and Body to take such action as will effectulally stop the publication and distribution of said papers in our own fair city. Referred to Health & Police. From M V B Stacy et al for grading Madison Street. Refferred to Streets & Street Improvements. From G W Young for the right to dig a pit for discharging Sewer. Referred to Streets & Street Improvements. From E Calvert et al for refunding Sidewalk tax. Referred to Finance Committee From Williamson & Kellogg for the right to use portions of Spring Street. Referred to Streets & Street Improvements. From David Kellogg to compel Providence Hospital to connect with Madison Street sewer. Referred to Health & Police. From James McNaught et al for vacating alley in Block 19 of Boren's Plat. Referred to Streets & Street Improvements From B F Day to purchase Lot4Sec4T24NR4East Referred to Public Buildings, Property & Grounds. from W E Wilson et al for grading 5th Street. Referred to Streets & Street Improvements. Reports Rec'd From the clerk on fixing rates of taxation for the year 1883. Referred to License & Revenue. Committee's Reports Rec'd From Finance asking 1 weeks further time on the assessor's petition granted From Streets recommending the granting of the petition M V B Stacy et al, for grading Madison Street. Adopted From Streets recommending the granting to Williamson & Kellogg the use of 20 feet in South side of Spring Street for 60 days, also the foot of Spring Street for a like period, all sidewalks to be unobstructed by them. Adopted From Streets on Petition of G W Young. Petition granted From Health & Police on petition of C M Bywater et al. Ordered that Comtee on Health & Police be & they are hereby instructed to abate the nuisance complained of.

Against adoption none. The Street Comtee return the petition of E Calvert et al on Battery Street recommending gthat the same be rejected Committees report adopted The Street Comtee recommend the granting of the petition of Mrs Harmon for repairning Columbia Street Adopted Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Tuesday June 17, 1884 at 8 o'clock pm for taking up the James St grade bids Attest E S Osborne clerk Approved H G Struve mayor June 17/84 Be it remembered that on this the 17th day of June 1884 the Common Council of theCity of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment Present: His Honor the acting mayor Councilman U M Rasin & Councilmen Thos Clancy, B F Day, John Keenen,Chas McDonald, B L Northrup, Otto Ranke & F W Wusthoff. Thereupon the foloowing proceedings are had: A report is rec'd from Street Comtee rejecting all bids on James Street grade for old Contract, provided no damages are claimed for changes of grade already made and provided further that contractors & bondsmen file in the clerks office a waiver of all claims to damages on Wednesday June 18, 18884 Adopted Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned.
