Petition to Extend City Limits of Seattle To the Honorable, the City Council, the Legislative Body of the said city of Seattle, hereby respectfully petition that the boundaries of the City of Seattle be altered and extended so as to include the new territory hereinafter described within the said City of Seattle after proceedings had as required by law, and that you submit to the electors of said city and to the electors residing in the said territory hereinafter described, the question whether said territory shall be annexed to said City of Seattle and become a part thereof. From Judiciaary Committee recommending that the petition of Powers & Meyers praying that the suit of the City against them be decided upon payment of costs by granted. n motion the petition referred back to the Committee for further investigation From the Finance Committee as follows: Your Committee respectfully report that they employed Mr E Shepard to assist the City Clerk in Balancing the various accounts as well as the City Treasurer's books: The work done was a very tedious undertaking from the fact that the accounts have been running for several years without having been balanced. The manner in which the books will be kept hereafter will assist your Committee in verifying the Treasurers report which under the former system was almost an impossibility. 761 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Mar 5 1886 being read is on motion laid onthe table Also an ordinance entitles "An ordinance toamend section8of ordinance no 397" Which after being read is adopted by the following vote viz: in favor of the adoption thereof Councilman R H Calligan, G W Hall, J Furth, W A Harrington, T W Lake, Chas McDonald, J J Post and G WYoung against none On motion of Councilman Furth the action of the Council in laying on the table the Ordinance entitled "An Ordinance to amend section 2 and 14 of Ordinance No 637" is reconsidered and motion being made, the ordinance is adopted by the following vote viz: In favor thereof Councilmen R H Calligan, J Furth, G W Hall, W A Harrington, T W Lake, Chas McDonald, J J Post and G WYoung against none The clerk submits an ordinance entitled "A special ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills" which is adopted by the following vote viz: In favor thereof Councilmen R H Calligan, J Furth, G W Hall, W A Harrington, T W Lake, Chas McDonald, J J Post and G WYoung against none On motion the council does now adjourn until thrusday evening March 11th 1886 Attest W R Forrest clerk by E Shepard deputy H L Yesler mayor

766 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Mar 11 1886 Petition of F H Osgood is now taken from the table and the ordinance submitted is read by the city attorney. Moved by Councilman Calligan that the matter be refered to the Committee of the whole to examine the proposed changes; lost Councilman Hall moves the adoption of the ordinance which is entitled "An ordinance to amend sections one and five of Ordinance #473, carried by the folowing vote: in favor of the adoption thereof Councilmen R H Calligan, J Furth, Geo Hall, W A Harrington, T W Lake, Chas McDonald, J J Post and G W Young against none On motion the Treasurer is authorized to return assessment roll of Seneca St improvement Ord #401 and Clerk authorized to credit Treasurer with amount of tax assessed to Territorial University On motion all matters realting to the police force of the City are laid over until next meeting Clerk submits an Ordinance entitled "A special ordinance appropriating moeny to pay audited bills" which is adopted by the following vote: in favor thereof Councilmen R H Calligan, J Furth, Geo Hall, W A Harrington, T W Lake, Chas McDonald, J J Post and G W Young Ordered that the council do now adjourn attest W R Forrest clerk by E Shepard deputy H L Yesler mayor
