772 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Mar 19 1886 The petition of T B Elder et al and D T Denny et al relating to police force are now taken from the table and read. Moved by Councilman Furth that the present force of twenty men including officers be retained, lost by the following vote; In favor of the motion Councilmen Furth, Harrington and Post, opposed Councilman Calligan, Hall, Lake and McDonald Councilman Calligan moved that the Chief of Police and Inspector of Police be directed to reduce the police force by dismissing five men Councilman Hall moved to amend by striking out the word five and inserting the word three, the amendment is carried by the following vote to wit: in favor of the amendment Councilmen Furth, Hall, Harrington and Post; opposed councilmlen Calligan, Lake and McDonald Councilman Calligan motion as amended ia now put and carried On motion the matter of Madison Street extension is made a special order for the next regular meeting Clerk submits anOrdinance entitles "A special ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills" which is adopted by the following vote to wit: infavor thereof Councilmen Calligan, Furth, Hall, Harrington, Lake, McDonald and Post. 780 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Apr 2 1886 the liquor licenses in the City of Seattle but gives way to a motion to make the question a special order for the next meeting and that the City Attorney be instructed to present a license ordinance with blanks for the amounts, which motionis carried. Clerk submits an ordinance entitled "A special ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills" which is adopted by the folowing vote, in favor of the adoption thereof Councilmen R H Calligan, J Furth, G W Hall, T W Lake Chas McDonald, J J Post and G W Young On motion the council does now adjourn Attest W R Forrest clerk by E Shepard deputy H L Yesler mayor Apr 16 1886 Be it remembered that on this the sixteenth day of April A D 1886 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law, the following officers being present to wit: Mayor H L Yesler and Councilmen R H Calligan J Furth, G W Hall, Chas McDonald, J J Post and G W Young thereupon the following proceedings are had The record of the proceeding of the previous session is read and approved. 785 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Apr 16 1886 Clerk submits a ondinance entitles "A special ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills" which is adopted by the unanimous vote of all the members present. On motion the council does now adjourn until Friday April 23rd. Attest W R Forrest clerk by E Shepard deputy H L Yesler mayor Apr 23 1886 Be it remembered that on this the twenty third day of April AD 1886 the City Council of theCity of Seattle meets its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment, the following officers being present to wit: Mayor H L Yesler and Councilmen R H Calligan J Furth]], Geo W Hall, T W Lake, Chas McDonald, J J Postand G W Young thereupon the following proceedings are had: The council now passes to the consideration of reprots of Committees The Committee on Licenses and Revenue to whom were referred the ordinance regulating the traffic in intoxicating liquors, presented through its chairman an oral report recommending certain changes in said ordinance The City Attorney now reads the changes proposed by the License Committee Moved to fix that amount of retail intoxicating liquor license at $500.00 per annum; with consent of the second the motion is withdrawn. On motion it's ordered that no license be granted
