After due examination said bonds are approved, and said applicants making due proof that they are persons of good moral character It is therefore ordered that upon their complyance with all the other provisions of said Ordinance the Clerk be and is hereby instructed to issue license to said applicants for the periods and purposes following to wit; Named Description of License Term Date of Commencement Margaret Sullivan Grocery 3 Months Novemeber 15/1881 August Hess Grocery 3 Months November 15/1881 And now the City Attorney submits Ordinance No 252, the same being an Ordinance granting the right of way to the Spring Hill Water Company to lay water pipes, within the City; and defining the rights, duties and obligations of said Company. After due consideration said ordinance is adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption His Honor, the acting Mayor, Jno Collins and Councilman Jennings, Keenan, Keezer, Clancy and McDonald Ordered that the matter of taking gravel out of Street by the Gas Company, be and the same is hereby referred to the Street Commissioner Ordered that the Council Stand now adjourned. attest E S Osborne Clerk Approved John Collins Acting Mayor

435 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE gaged in extending its line Westward from Ainsworth across the Cascade mountains to Puget Sound; And whereas, we believe the great object of the creation of said Company cannot be accomplished without the construction of the said Cascade division; and that the welfare of the people of the Territory of Washington requires the imediate construction of said division and we believe that should said land grant be not forfeited, said Cascade division will be completed at an early day, therefore, Be it resolved by the Chamber of Commerce of the City of Seattle, that we deem it for the best interests of the people of the Territory of Washington as well as of the whole nation, that said railroad Company should have and retain its land grant in accordance with the spirit and intent of the law, to enable it to finish and complete its road to Puget Sound. Resolved, that we are opposed to and most respectfully protest agianst any action of Congress tending to the forfeiture of said land grant. Resolved, that our Delegate in Congress be, and is requested to in all reasonable efforts to prevent the forfeiture of said grant and to procure the construction of said Cascade division at as early a day as possible and upon such route as will tend to best promote the interests of the people thoughout the Territory. Resolved that our Corresponding Secretary be directed to at once forward copies of the foregoing to our Delegate and the Chairman of the proper Committees of the Senate and House of Representatives. Ordinances An ordinanace is submitted entitled "An Ordinance to amend section "1 of Ordinance No. 253 granting the right of way to the Spring Hill Water Company to lay water pipes within the City, and defining the rights, duties and obligations of said Company." After due consideration the same is adopted upon the following vote, towit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Day, Keenen, Chas Mc Donald, Northrup, Ranke, Rasin & Wusthoff. Against adoption none. The Council proceeds to consider an Ordinance entitled "A Special ordinance appropriating money to Pay audited bills. Adopted upon the following vote, towit: In favor of adoption Clancy, Day, Keenen, Chas McDonald, Northrup, Ranke, Rasin & Wusthoff. Against adoption none. Ordered that one half of all the receipts of licenses now placed to the credit of the City Fund be placed to the credit of the Road Fund. Ordinances The attorney submits an Ordinance entitled "An Ordinance To fix the limits of the benefits an protection afforded by the contract for the supply of water made with the Spring Hill Water Company".
