99 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE. July 20th, '82 Councilmen for the Second Ward Chas McDonald John Collins Fred Gash Councilmen for the Third Ward O. F. Casper G. L. Manning Ordered that the Council now stand adjourned until July, 28th, 1882 Attest: E S. Osborne, Clerk Approved L. P. Smith, Mayor July 28th, '82 Be it remembered that on this the 28th day of July, 1882 The Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in it's Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment. The following Officers are present, to wit: His Honor the Mayor L. P. Smith and CouncilmenJohn Collins, M. Densmore, Wm A. Jennings, John Keenan, & Charles McDonald. Thereupon the following proceedings are had; A petition is received from John J McGilvra & Others praying for a sidewalk on the Street Between Cherry & Madison Streets Referred to the Street Committee. A petition is received from G. C. Phinney praying for the right to clear in Pine & 9th Streets of C.C. Terry's plat; Thereupon the same is laid over. A petition is received from Jacob Brunn regarding property on West street. Refered to Street Committee. And now the Finance Committee returns the report of the City Justice with their approval of the same. Report filed. The Street Comtee returns the petition of G. M. Bowman et al for the opening of Battery Street with recommendation that the same be granted. Thereupon the prayer of the petition is granted. And now come Frank Peters and Wm Grose and make their several applications & Bonds for retail liquor licenses for the period of 3 months from the dates Aug 10 & Aug 1st, respectively. Adopted. From Health and Police approving Report of thr Health Officer. Adopted. From Fire and Water Supply asking further time on the Ordinance granting water rights. Granted further time until next meeting to report. Applications for Licenses Received From Frank Peters for a retail liquor license. Refused. From J. C. Nixon for a retail liquor license. Referred to Committee on Licenses and Revenue. From Joseph Francisco for a retail liquor license. Referred to the Committee on Licenses and Revenue. From J.H. Grimsley for a retail liquor license. Referred to the Committe on Licenses and Revenue. Claims paid City Fund Walter France erroneous assessment No. 206 $7.00 Ordinances Received From Judiciary and Legislative submitting an Ordinance entitled "To provide for the construction of a sidewalk on Union Street". Adopted on the following vote, to wit: In favor of adoption Collins, Clancy, Gasch, McDonald and Rasin. Against adoption none. From Judiciary and Legislative submitting an Ordinance entitled " To provide for the improvements of Second and Jackson Streets". Adopted on the following vote, to wit: In favor of adoption Collins, Clancy, Gasch, McDonald and Rasin. Against adoption none. From Judiciary and Legislative Comtee. submitting an Ordinace entitled "To provide for the construction of a sidewalk on the south side of Washington Street from a point 90 feet west of 3rd Street to Second Street". Adopted on the following vote, to wit: In favor of adoption Collins, Clancy, Gasch, McDonald and Rasin. Against adoption none. New Business And now the Policeman B.H. Calligan tenders his resignation as a member of the Police force to take effect as soon as his succesor is elected and qualified. Accepted.

159 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Oct. 23/82 Ordered that Frank Peters be allowed to withdraw his application for a retail liquor license and re-file the same. And now Frank Peters files his application for a retail liquor license. Referred to the Committe on Licenses and Revenue. Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned. Attest: E S Osborne Clerk Approved H G Struve Mayor Office of the Mayor of the City of Seattle October 25, 1882 A meeting of the Council is hereby called to convene on Thursday October 26 1882 at 7&1/2 o'clock p.m. at the Council Chamber for the transaction of any business that may be brought before it. H G Stuve Mayor Oct. 26/82 Be it remembered that on this the 26th day of October 1882 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to the call of His Honor the Mayor. The following Offices are present, towit: His Honor the Mayor H.G. Struve and Councilmen John Collins, O.F. Cosper, Chas F. Clancy, Fred Gasch, G. L. Manning and U.M. Rasin. Thereupon the following proceedings are had: Communications Received From His Honor the Mayor submitting a protest by W. E. Borne Architect against the manner of the construction of the new City Engine House by E. W. Rea Contractor. Report Received From City Surveyor submitting plans and specifications and estimates for a sidewalk on Union Street as required by Ordinance No. 324. Thereupon after examinaton the same
