COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE

Oct 7, 1881

Be it remembered that on this the 7th day of October 1881 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in it's Council Chamber pursuant to law. The following Officers are present, to wit: His Honor the Acting Mayor John Collins and Councilmen Thos Clancy, Wm A. Jennings, John Keenan, Moses Keezer and Charles McDonald Thereupon the following proceedings are had: A Communication is received from Tiger Engine Co. No. 2. expressing their thanks to the Council for the Hose Cart presented them; and at the same time they petition to have their Engine painted; Thereupon the Communication is referred to the Fire Committee. The regular monthly reports of the following City Offices are received and ordered filed, to wit: Harbor Master, City Attorney, Street Commissioner, City Justice and Treasurer And now come the persons hereafter named and make applications for the licenses herein after specified for the periods and from the dates herein after set out; and at the same time said applicants submit their several bonds in accordance with the Ordinance relative thereto. After due examination said bonds are approved, and the said applicants making due proof that they are men of good moral character: It is therefore ordered that upon their compliance with all the other provisions of said ordi-nance the Clerk be and he is thereby instructed to said applicants licenses for the periods and purposes following, to wit:

22 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Ordered that the Clerk be & he is hereby instructed to communicate with the owners of property interested, that the Council purpose ordering the Construction of a certain sidewalk to connect with the 6th side walk. Ordered that Fifth Street be improved under the supervision of the Street Committee in accordance with a plan to be approved by the Surveyor Ordered that the Council Stand now adjourned Attest: E S Osborne Clerk Approved L P Smith Mayor Be it remembered that on this the 6th day of January 1882 The Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law The following Officers are present to wit: Councilmen Thos Clancy, John Collins, M. Densmore, Wm A. Jennings, John Keenan, Moses Keezer and Charles McDonald Thereupon the following proceedings are had By reason of the absence of His Honor the Mayor L.P. Smith by sickness and his consequent inability to perform the duties of his office, Councilman Wm A. Jennings is by the Council elected to the Office of Acting Mayor during such temporary inability A petition is received from W. Buritt & others praying for the removal of certain obstructions at the foot of 3rd Street, Thereupon the same is referred to the Street Committee A Petition is received from F. W. Wusthoff praying for the remitting of a Road Poll Tax, thereupon the same is referred to the Finance Committee A petition is received from M. Choir praying for the remitting of certain taxes paid; Thereupon the same is refered to the Finance Committee. a petition is received from Benj Murphy praying for the remitting of a Road Poll Tax; Thereupon the Prayer of the petition

41 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE the assesment required by said Ordinance No 257 & filed with the City Clerk on the 20th day of February 1882; and the Council have heard all complaints touching said assessment and having made corrections therein & the Council finding such roll as corrected in accordance with law. It is ordered that such roll be and the same is approved and is hereby declared to be the assessment roll for such special district under said ordinance. And now the Oregon and Trans Continental Railroad Company & the Columbia and Puget Sound Railroad Company submit an ordinance for adoption granting said companies certain rights along the waterfront: Thereupon said ordinance is referred to the Ordinance Committee with instructions to report thereon at next meeting. The matter of certain complaints in reference to lighting the street lamps is hereby refered to the Gas Committee. Ordered that the matter of landing brick upon the City landing places be referred to the Fire Committee Ordered that a Warrant be drawn in favor of Chas McDonald in the sum of $10.00 on the Fire Fund with which to purchase coal. COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE

Be it remembered that on this the 14th day of April A.D. 1882 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in it's Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment of April 7th, 1882.

The following officers are present, to-wit:His Honor the Mayor: L. P. Smith and Councilmen John Collins, M. Densmore, Wm A. Jennings, John Keenan, Moses Keezer, and Chas. McDonald.

Thereupon the following proceedings are had: Ordered that all bids for the grading of Front and Second Streets be returned to the original bidders.

Finance Committee returns the reports of City Treasurer and City Justice of the Peace whereupon said reports are ordered filed.

The following claims having been duly audited by the council are ordered paid by Warrants drawn on the funds and in the amounts as follows:-

The Finance Committte report on the petition of James Dougan praying for cancellation of Certificates of Purchase of Lots 9 & 12, Denny's addition sold for taxes in 1878 and 1879, recommending that said Certificate of Purchase for the year 1879 be cancelled, whereupon the Clerk is instructed to cancel the same.

The Street Committee report favorably on the petition of A.A. Denny et al praying for the grading of Union Street from Front Street to Eighth Street and the Ordinance Committee is

A petition is received from Clark Anderson & Co and others praying for the opening of Union Street from Front to West Streets and thence to Pike, thereupon the same is referred to the Street Committee.
