38 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Thereupon the following proceedings are had: A communication is received from John Baker asking the appointment as a Special Police Officer ordered filed The regular monthly reports of the following City Offices are received & ordered filed to wit: Health Officer, Harbor Masters Street Commissioner, City Attorney and City Treasurer. The report of the City Justice is referred to the Finance Committee A report is received from the Fire Committee recommending the removal of all China Wash Houses from the Fire Limits thereupon the report is adopted A report is received from the Street Committee upon the petition of E A Turner & others for the opening of Weller Street; Thereupon the report is adopted & the prayer of the petition granted A report is received from the Street Committee upon the petition of James Gleeson & others for the construction of a sidewalk on Jackson Street; thereupon the report is adopted & the prayer of the petition is granted A report is received from the Street Committee upon the petition of J A Stewart & others for the opening of Pine Street thereupon the report is adopted and the prayer of the petition granted And now, this being the time specified in the Notice to Contractors given in pursuance of Ordinance No 257 the Council proceeds to open & consider all bids that have been received for the Construction of the side walk under said Ordinance; thereupon the bid of T P Roberts is opened & read which bid is in consideration of the sum of $745.00 It appearing to the Council that this is the only bid receivedd the consideration thereof is laid over until next meeting Orderd that the new City Cemetary be surveyed and platted under the direction of the Cemetary Committee And now the finance Committee makes their report upon the taxation matter of Melody Choir; thereupon it is ordered that a Warrant be drawn on the City Fund in the sum of $1.81 in full for such wrongful taxation And now the Ordinance Committee returns the petition

65 COMMON COUNCILOF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Be it remembered that on this the 11th day of May 1882 the common council of the city of Seattle meets in it Council Chamber as a Board of Equalization pursuant to adjournment of May 10 1882 Present His Honor the Mayor L P Smith and Coucilman Thomas Clancy, John Collins, Wm A Jennings and John Keenan Thereupon the Council proceeds with the equalization of the assessment roll of 1882, pending which Council adjourns until May 12th 1882 Attest E S Osborne Clerk Approved L P Smith Mayor Be it remembered that on this the 12th day of May, 1882, the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment of May 5th 1882 Present, His Honor the Mayor L P Smith and Councilmen Thomas Clancy, John Collins, M Densmore Wm A Jennings, John Keenan and Charles McDonald Ordered that Andrew Castro be granted a lease to certain space on the Columbia Street incline for the consideration of $30.00 per year. Ordered that the chairman of the Cemetary Committee be instructed to advertise for bids for slashing City Cemetary And now come persons hereinafter named and make application for the business license after named from the dates and for the periods hereinafter specified and at the same itme & said applicants file their several bonds in accordance with the Ordinance relation thereto. After due examination said bonds are approved and the said applicants making due proof that they are persons of good moral character, it is therefore ordered that upon the completion with all the othere provisions of said Ordinance that Clerk be and he hereby is instructed to issue licenses to said applicants for the periods and purposes following to wit:

609 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Mar 21/85 Be it remembered that on this 20th day of March 1885 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law. The following Officers are present, to wit: His Honor the Mayor John Leary and Councilmembers B.H. Northup, Alfred Snyder, H.L Yesler, W.G. Latimer and W.V Rinehart. Thereupon the following proceedings are had. Petitions Rec'd James St planking of sewer in 5th St. into James S Cherry Sts From John Collins et al for planking, James Street from Front to Second Street. Referred to Street Committee From Fridolin Wilhelm et al for a sewer in Fifth Street between Cherry and James Streets. Refered to Committee on Sewers. Lombard, Payne and Birch Sts Opening of Lombard, Payne & Birch Sts Opening of From Thos Mercer et al for opening Lombard, Payne and Birch Street in Collins addition. Referred To Street Committee [Hose Co #1] admitted to Fire Dept From The Board of the Delegates recommending the admission of "Hose Co No 1" to the Seattle Fire Department. Thereupon said recommendation is approved and said "Hose Co. No. 1" is hereby declared admitted into the Seattle Fire Department. Reports Rec'd Commercial Mill & Front St planking cost of From the Street Commissioner showing the cost of planking Commercial Mill and Front Streets. Report adopted. Cemetary to be fenced. Park approved. From the Cemetary Commission recommending the fencing of the City Cemetary and for certain improvements to the City Park. Ordered that the Clerk be & is hereby instructed to notify said Commission that a fence has heretofore been ordered by the Council for the Cemetary and further ordered that the Committee on Public Buildings, Property and Grounds in connection with said Cemetary Commission be and are instructed to repair the fence around the City Park and to make certain other repairs to said Park grounds. Rollin St Extension From Surveyor reporting progress on Rollin Street Extension ordered that the surveyor be & is hereby instructed to complete the plat of such extension. Moltke St From Street Committee reporting against granting the petition of A.E. Houser et al for opening Moltke Street. Report adopted. Blk 42 draining of From Committee reporting against granting the petition of D.C. Townsend et al for draining Block 42 Hen's S.A. Bell addition.
