JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Be it remembered that on this the 16th day of June 1882, the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment of May 9th 1882. Present His Honor, the Mayor, L. P. Smith and Councilman John Collins, Thos Clancy, Wm. A. Jennings, John Keenan, Chas McDonald and G. L. Manning. Thereupon the following proceedings are had. The Ordinance Committee submit ordinance No 285, the same being entitled "An Ordinance to provide for the erection of a Building to be used as a Council Chamber, Fire Engine House and City Jail, in the City of Seattle, in the County of King and Territory of Washington." After due consideration said ordinance is adopted by the following vote, towit: In favor of adoption John Collins, Thos Clancy, Wm. A. Jennings, John Keenan, Charles McDonald and G. L. Manning. Against adoption, none. A petition is received from B. F. Day praying for the removal of a fence from 9th street and for permission to build a sidewalk; thereupon the same is referred to the Street Committee. A petition is received form Mrs E. Buscal et al praying for the placing of the gas lights on Second and Cherry Streets; thereupon the same is referred to the Gas Committee. Ordered that the Cemetery Committee be and they are hereby authorized to procure the cleaning of two(2) or more acres of the Cemetery. And now the Street Committee whom was referred the remonstrance of A. Spaulding et al against building the sidewalk on 11th street report on the same and recommend that said proposal sidewalk be not built; thereupon said report is adopted. And now the Council proceeds to reconsider the order if June 2nd 1881 by which the bid of T. P. Roberts on 11th street sidewalk was accepted; thereupon it is ordered that all bids for the construction of said sidewalk be rejected.

Adopted From Streets & Street Improvements recommending the granting of the petition of John H Carr et al for a side walk on the North side of Jackson Street fromthe West side of Eighth Street to the West side of 6th street. Laid on the table Application for Licenses Recd' From G Sohucke for Retail Liquor. Granted From Funk & Dickman for Grocery. Granted Claims Paid Fire Fund Anthony Holmes Coke No 94 $6.25 W A Perry Coke & Coal 95 10.00 Ordinances Received From the Judiciary and Legislative submitting an ordianance entitled "To provide for the levying and collecting of special tax for the purpose of raising funds to pay for the construction of a sidewalk on King Street under Ordinance No 302" Adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Cosper, Gasch, McDonald & Rasin; against adoption none From the Judiciary and Legislative submitting an ordinance entitled "To provide for the levying and collecting of a special tax for the purpose of raising funds to pay for the construction of a Sidewalk of Seventh Street under ordinance No 303" Adopted upon the following vote to wit: In favor of adoption Cosper, Gasch, McDonald, & Rasin. Against adoption none. From Judiciary & Legislative submitting an Ordinance entitled "To provide for the construction for sidewalk on Jackson Street" adopted upon the following vote to wit:

183 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE be and are hereby granted until next meeting in which to report on the petition of A.S. Pinkham. Application for Licenses From Aug. LeBallister and Co. for Retail liquors granted. Ordered that the Legislative and Judiciary Committee be and they are hereby instructed to submit at next meeting an ordinance in reference to assesment levy and theit collection of taxes. Ordered that the City Surveyor be and he is hereby intructed to submit at next meeting plans and estimates for a custom of the corner of Marion and 3rd Street said estimates to show the cost of wood and brick customs. Ordered that the City Surveyor be and he is hereby instructed to submit at next meeting plans, specificatons and estimates for the planking of Commercial, South 2d, Jackson, Main, Washington, Mill and Front Streets. Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until Friday December 15 1882. By reason of the absence from the City of His Honor the Mayor H.G. Struve Councilman John Collins is elected to the position of Acting Mayor to serve during such abcense. Feb. 12/893 Be it remembered that on this the 12th day of February 1883 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournemnt.

The following of the Officers are present, towit: His Honor the Acting Mayor Councilman John Collins and Councilmen O.F. Cosper, Charles F. Clancy, Fred Gasch, Charles McDonald and G. L. Manning.

Thereupon the following proceedings are had:

Bids Received And now the Council proceeds to open and consider the bids for the sidewalk to be constructed on Columbia Street under Ordinance No. 354 which bids are as follows, towit:

And now is appearing to the Councl that the bid of S. F. Hoole is the lowest and best bid, and that he is the lowest responsible builder. It is therefore ordered that the contract be awarded to him upon his giving a bond with good and sufficient sureties in the sum of $500.00

And now the Council proceeds to open and consider the bids for the sidewalk to be constructed on Cherry Street under Ordinance No 354, which bids are as follows, towit:
