121 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Be it remembered that on this the 4th day of September 1882 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment. The following Offices are present, to wit: His Honor the Mayor H.G. Struve and Councilmen John Collins, Chas F. Clancy, Fred Gasch, Charles McDonald, G. L. Manning and V.M. Rasin. Thereupon the following proceedings are has: Reports of Committees Received From Judiciary and Legislative, submitting an ordinance entitled "To provide for the purchase of certain real estate" From Health and Police, in the Communication of D. E. L. Smith for a 3 month leave of absence, recommending the granting of the prayer of said Communication. Adopted and petition granted. From Finances, on the claim of W. E. Boone, recommending the same be paid. Adopted. From Finances, on the matter of bids for job printing, recommending that the Clerk be authorozed to procure job work done and he may judge for the best interests of the City. Adopted and bids rejected. From Street and Street Improvements, on the petition of O.S. Wright et al for the opening Canal Street from 12th to 13th Streets, and 13th Street to be opened from Canal Street to a point 100 feet south of the south line of Catharine Street, recommending the granting of said petition. Adopted and petition granted. From Streets and Street Improvements, on the petition of A.K. 85 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Sep 17 1886 Be it remembered that on this 17th day of September 1886 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law. The Following officers are present viz: MayorW H Shoudy and Councilmen J M Frink, J Furth, Jas Green, T D Hinckley, T W Lake & C F Reitze Thereupon the following proceedings are had: Petitions Communications Etc Read Petition of the Pacific Postal Telegraph Cable Co for permission to erect a telegaph poles and stretch wires thereon within the city limits. Granted on the condition that the poles be erected under the supervision of the Street Commissioner Petitionof Eben Smith et al for street Lights along Madison Street as far East as James St referred to Street Light Committee Petition of Roger S Green et al for Street Lights along James Street from 5th Street to 10th Street Granted. Petition of A C Anderson for permission for the opening of 13th Street from Madison Street to Union Street Referred to Street Commission with Authority to open said street, if upon examination they deem it proper. Communication from Frank Beattie and Alfred Bryan offering to keep the fire alarm wires in order for $15.00 per month read & referred to Committe on Fire & Water. Monthly Reports Received. From the Mayor, read and on motion the same is refered to a special committee consisting of the Chairmen of the Judiciary Committee, Street Committee, Committee on License & Revenue and Committee on Sewers & Drainage. From the City Attorney for the month of Feby. read and referred to the Committee on License & Revenue. From Chief of Police showing number of arrests etc read and ordered filed. From Police Justices Jones & Soderberg read and referred to Finance Committee. From City Treasurer, read & referred to Street Committee & returned approved. From Harbor Master, read & referred to Com on Harbor & Wharves. Committee Reports Received. From Street Committee recommending that the alley between Columbia and Madison Streets west of Front Street be opened and the said Alley from Columbia to Union Streets be put in good repair. Adopted. From same committee returning petition of F Wilhelm & others for grading Cherry Street from Fourth Street to 13th Street reporting that "as the petitioners have omitted to ask for sidewalks along the street the Com. recommends that the petition be returned to the parties interested in said improvement. Communications from Harbor Master giving estimate of cost of placing three buoys in the Harbor, read and referred to the Committee on Harbors & Wharves. Committee Reports Received From the Street Committee recommending that the petition of the Seattle Upholstering and Manufacturing Company for a lease of a portion of a portion of the foot of Spring Street for a period of five (5) years be granted for the period of three (3) years.
