Referred to the committee on Streets and Street Improvements From the Heirs at Law of Fred Slother Dec'd for the adjustment of sidewalk tax for Jackson Street sidewalk tax levy under Ordinance No. 283, Referred to the Committee on Streets and Street Improvements. From Roswell Scott et al for an Ordinance prohibiting the wearing of bells on animals. Referred to the Committee on Streets and Street Improvements From M Densmore et al for an Ordinance changing the Grade on Union Street from Front Street to8th Street and to have Union Street u-graded. Referred to the Committee on Streets and Street Impr -ovements. From Robert Kaupe et al for an Ordinance to construct side walks on both sides of Union Street from Front Street to the East side of Eighth Street. Referred to the Committee on Street and Street Improvement. From Geo Harlip for the right to erect a fish stand. Referred to the Committee on Streets And Street Imrpovements From W.R. Brawley et al for the opening of Washington Street from 10th to 11th Street, and for the opening of 11th Street from Washington Street to Main Street. 121 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Be it remembered that on this the 4th day of September 1882 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment. The following Offices are present, to wit: His Honor the Mayor H.G. Struve and Councilmen John Collins, Chas F. Clancy, Fred Gasch, Charles McDonald, G. L. Manning and V.M. Rasin. Thereupon the following proceedings are has: Reports of Committees Received From Judiciary and Legislative, submitting an ordinance entitled "To provide for the purchase of certain real estate" From Health and Police, in the Communication of D. E. L. Smith for a 3 month leave of absence, recommending the granting of the prayer of said Communication. Adopted and petition granted. From Finances, on the claim of W. E. Boone, recommending the same be paid. Adopted. From Finances, on the matter of bids for job printing, recommending that the Clerk be authorozed to procure job work done and he may judge for the best interests of the City. Adopted and bids rejected. From Street and Street Improvements, on the petition of O.S. Wright et al for the opening Canal Street from 12th to 13th Streets, and 13th Street to be opened from Canal Street to a point 100 feet south of the south line of Catharine Street, recommending the granting of said petition. Adopted and petition granted. From Streets and Street Improvements, on the petition of A.K. Manning et al for the opening of 3rd Street from Battery to Blanchard Streets, recommending the granting of said petition. Adopted and petition granted. 542 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Sept 22/84 to clean the mudoff Commercial Street and to gravel the same where necessary Ordered that the Street Commissioner be & is hereby instructed to plank Mill Street from the Schwabacher alley to the East side of Front Street Ordered that the Street Commissioner be & is hereby instructed to gravel where necessary to ready as passable in Front Street from Mill Street to Blanchard Street excepting one block between Bell & Blanchard Street which said block is to be planked for a width of 18 feet. All the foregoing to be done under the supervision & control of the Street Comtee. An Ordinance is submitted entitled "A special ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills" Adopted upon the following vote to wit: Frye, Northrup, Snyder, Yesler & Latimer against adoption none. To the Hon Mayor Board of Aldermen and House of Delegates of the City of Seattle Gentlemen:- The undersigned citizens and tax-payers of theCity of Seattle respectfully represent: that there is urgent need of re-grading Front Street from Pike Street to Blanchard Street, and in view of the fact that the City is preparing to lay a water main in said Front Street, your petitioners respectfully ask your Hon Body to order said Front Street regraded from Pike Street to Blanchard Street, before said water pipe is laid, The expense of re-grading said Front Street, including dmage to abutting property, to be borne by the City of Seattle. The benefits to be derived from said improvements to the City at large, we deem suffiicient to justify the expenditure.
