108 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Aug 4/82 The reports of the following officers are received and ordered placed on file, viz: Street Commissioner, Harbor Master, Fire Warden, City Justice, City Attorney. Ordered that the clerk be and he is hereby instructed to advertise for bids for the furnishing of the City with the following articles for the ensuing year; viz, Lumber and Stationery; and for bids for lighting the gas lights, and doing the printing of the City. Aug 11/82 Be it remembered that on this the 11th day of August, 1882, the Common Council of the City of Seattle, meets in its council chamber pursuant to the call of the mayor and in accordance with ordinance No 292. Present his honor, the mayor, H.G. Struveand councilmen Charles F. Clancy, O.F. Cosper, Fred Gash, G.L. Manning, Charles McDonald and U.M. Rasin. Thereupon the following proceedings are had. A communication is received from the mayor relative to a defect in ordinance No 292, and is ordered filed. The Legislative and Judiciary Committee are instructed to submit an ordinance replacing ordinance No 292. A petition is received from A.P. Spaulding et al praying for the opening of Eleventh Street and is referred to the Committe on Streets and Street Improvements. A petition is received from Stewart and Ebersold praying for a sidewalk on the West side of Front Street, and is referred to Committee on Streets and Street Improvements. A petition is received from G.W. Hall et al praying that bids be called for, for the construction of sidewalks on

Rasin Thereupon the following proceedings are had: Petitions Received From Robert Russell et al for the enforcement of ordinances No.s 236 and 155 licensing Vehicles. Referred to Committee on Lic -ences and Revenue. From Moses Keezer et al for a gas lamp corner Mill and Terrace Streets. Referred to Committe on Gas Lights. From F. X. Prefontaine for a gas lamp corner 4th and Washington Streets. Referred to Committee on Gas Lights. Remonstrances Received From W. C. Hawthorne et al against the proposed regrading of Union Street. Referred to the Committee on Public Buildings, Property and Grounds. Communications Received From City Surveyor recommending the changing of the gradeline on 2d Street between Mill and King Streets. Referred to Committee on Streets and Street Improvements From City Attorney submitting to amend ordinance No. 197. Reports of Committees received From Judiciary and Legislative Submitting an ordinance to amend Sections 2 & 3 of ordinance No 246 From Public Buildings, Property and Grounds on certain needed changes required in New City Engine House. Ordered that the matter be referred to said Committee with instructions to act in the premises & to report thereon at next meeting From Health and Police recommending that the Police Force be uniformed. Recommitted with instructions to submit proper style of uniform.

Struve and councilmen O.F. Cosper, Charles F. Clancy, Fred Gasch, Charles McDonald and U.M. Rasin Thereupon the following proceedings are had. And now the council proceeds to examine, consider & hear all complaints touching the amended and supplemental assessment roll for the grading & improvements under ordinance No 288, which roll was filed with the city Clerk September 5. 1882. Thereupon the Council makes the following changes & corrections in said roll to wit: The assessment against S.G. Benedict on Lot 4 Block 24 of Denny's plat valued at $800 for land & $100 for improvements is erased & struck from said roll The assessment against Geo Kinnear on lot 8 block 15 of Boren & Denny's plat valued at $2500 for land & $400 for improvements is changed and reduced to the S 1/2 of said lot and is valued at $1300 for land & the said for $400 for improvements the assessment against D.H. Callahan on lot 5 in block 22 of Denny's plat valued at $1600 for land and $50 for improvements is reduced to $1500 on lot & no change for improvements The assessment against L.H. Terry on lot 8 in block 45 of Denny's plat valued at $800 for lands is erased and struck from said roll. And now all complaints against said roll or any individual assessment therein having been heard
